I when over to Office Depot this afternoon to pick up three more 17” Phillips monitors like we purchased eariler because we have been very pleased with them. With rebate they are only $139 now. I came back with the Xtreme Flat KDS FX-7b 17” monitors because they were setting up a stack display for only $89.99 each with $40 rebate ($10 of it is even an in-store rebate) when I got to the store. It is in their sales flyer so it may be nationwide.

We did a side-by-side comparison with the Phillips without ever rebooting the system that we hooked the KDS to and at the same settings there was very little difference even though the new KDS was running off of a lower end video card in the dual monitor setup. A PC Mag review talked about some flicker but we could not really tell any difference between the monitors and did not notice any flicker on either brand. The Phillips may have an edge in color saturation. They both spec out about the same.

Most everyone knows KDS is not a top of the line monitor but we do have a couple in-house from back when we sold hardware so tonight I looked at one 17” KDS monitor we are still using daily and it is 4.5 years old yet still going strong.

Of course most CAT adjusters can afford to go with the flat panel monitors because they are easy to haul around if they want bigger screens. At Wal-Mart I saw a KDS 17” for only $448.00 but if you are in the market for a CRT 17” monitor this is the best monitor I have seen for less than $90 but they may be $50 by the 4th of July. :)

The rebate program on the KDS monitors at Office Depot ends on 29 Dec 02 based on their flyer but I expect the sub $100 price will become the norm on 17" CRT monitors in the future.

Thats good to know Gale, I need two monitors. The nearest Office depot is where I buy my printers.

I am computer poor, I have two laptops and three PCs. You would think I was in the business. I put together one for a friend and his mate decided she wanted a Gateway because mine was not a name brand. They are having problems and I can't help, or won't. Every time I go into a name brand, I can not find the parts in my supplies, and their's are sky high.
I have one 17" and two 15s, one of the 15s has the resolution of a shoe box, so I gotta replace the 15s.
No two monitors are the same, just like TVs, you buy what looks good, in the box you take your chances. So we take a chance every time we buy a monitor since they are boxed.
