And just one more thing:

How is it that you and CatDaddy don't consider what you are doing as 'turn and burn' adjusting?

Did I miss something or one of us simply doesn't understand the general meaning of that phrase.

Clayton, I only mentioned evetraughs because the last time I was in Toronto and used the term Gutter I almost ended up in it. I was going to edit in a SMILE behind that statement, but I knew you would somehow understand. SMILE !

mshort68, If a poll was to be organized defining your adjusting techniques I for one would push the button marked <.> SLASH & BURN. However to be fair I want you to understand it would be a hard choice to do so if the <.> Full of Himself. button was also offered.

The responsible vendors in America will undoubtedly push the button marked: <*> Don't Hire

This young man is an *accident* waiting to happen.

(*Accident*: Bad Faith claim and/or Errors and Omissions claim and/or state insurance commissioner action and/or class action lawsuit)

Looking back over all this in continued amazement, another part of it scares me, and envy certainly doesn't enter into the picture; is the statement, ".... I'll be the one driving the new Escalade".

Maybe I'm old, but maybe it is a good thing the insureds are not home for these so called "First Contact" settlements - left outside under the door mat with a check. That certainly is not the definition I've heard carriers call a first call settlement.

I don't get a good feeling when someone comes to see me regarding anything to do with money and comes with the statement, 'I'm here to help you'; and they have parked anything like an Escalade in my driveway.

Whenever I get a new truck, when the lease is up, I get at least a couple of 'ribs' in the first month before it gets dirty, from people taking snips about me being able to drive a 'vehicle like that'; and it only a comfortable F150.

I remember back in the early 90's working a hail storm for Farmers in Lubbock where we had an individual like this *accident* who was a staff adjuster. I was handed 50 or 75 claims and started working them when I found that somehow I had received over 12 duplicate claims for this *accident individual*. When I turned in the claims the storm manager asked me to verify the measurements on several of the roofs as they did not seem to be PROPER. Well Lubbock has some of the easiest roofs in the world to measure as they are almost all common hip or gable. Turns out our star adjuster was double measuring each roof and Farmers had been paying the double measurements. I spent the next two weeks going back on every claim that the FORMER staff adjuster had inspected and remeasuring and retreiving [where possible] the checks that had been issued. This was one of my WORST storms trying to clean up after this idiot who sounded a little familiar with some of the previous post here. I know they are not the same as I know both and can vouch for the fact that they have different NAMES.

Well maybe CatDaddy will stay true to his word and tell us who the other 9 ('10 before 11') adjusters are, and we can invite them here to share their secrets from the Speedy Gonzalez School of Slash and Burn Adjusting.

As the night draws to a close on this interesting fictional interlude, I was emptying my pockets, and noticed I had a $20 dollar bill (USD even).

I'm willing to stake that behind the statement that 'we will not be told the names' of the other gang of 9, in the '10 before 11' group.

If I am wrong, I'll send it to a charity, or consider other suggestions.

Any takers? Or anyone willing to add to that stake?

Would 20 hours from the time of this post be fair time for disclosure of "I could tell you ...."?

Clayton, I'll add another $20 to your bet but no way I'm betting against you.

Anyone can talk the talk, but walking the walk THAT'S another thing!

Of course, if CatDaddy can't or won't put up, we will all at least know his is just so much huff and puff arrogant braggadocio without veracity or merit as well.

I think we've gotten off topic... why do people want in to cat adjusting? Beats the heck out of me?! I only ended up here because this is where God wanted me to be. True story:

Senior year of college, been married almost a year. My husband wants to study theology in New Orleans. I refuse to leave Miami because I want to work for my alma mater in admissions, plus, I know NOLA is a dirty city, more than 4 hours from my family. After many go rounds, I finally declare, "Fine. We can move to New Orleans, but only if God gives me a job that ALLOWS me to live there." End of fight. 3 days later, I am interviewing w/ Allstate's Cat Team and the offer is given at the end of the interview. Knowing what I did about that job verses my other NOLA prospects, I knew this was the job God wanted me to have. I took it on the spot and moved to NOLA. I promised my husband 1 year. I didn't think I could handle being away from him weeks at a time. Well, it's been almost 4 years and I love my job. I am successful at it and have far to go in this field.

Now, not to be too "religious" but many events and circumstances have confirmed my job as an adjuster. Also, I know many who read this site think that the carrier's decisions to hire college graduates with no experience was a bad one. I'll just say there were positives and negatives about that situation and in the end it worked to the carrier's benefit. Being they are a publicly held company, we should expect nothing less.

I have had many private conversations on this site encouraging beginners to start w/ a staff position. I couldn't even imagine trying to get the training I now have by being an IA. Maybe some day I will strike out on my own, but my husband and I enjoy the security of a staff cat position.

I can name 5 with Worley and 5 with Pilot, just for beginners. Oh yes, also 3 with Eberl's. Don't worry guys there will always be SS for guys like you (maybe).

The grass is always greener on the other side, but it still has to be mowed!

You guys wouldn't even know them if we named them, because they are in a different class of adjusters. They actually make money year after year and lots of it. Sorry, but that is reality and you just don't want to admit it. Truth hurts. Sorry, Jim.

Gosh, I am so sorry I am working and missed all these wonderful opportunites to respond. I see you guys have gotten to know my friend mshort. He's a piece of work I'll tell ya.

Guys, I have read all your posts. I thought my comments might be a little too much for some to handle. I am sorry for that but as I said, I was not trying to stir anything up, just stating the facts of life. Its up to you to decide whether you want to listen or not. Now we can all sit here and go "oh yeah" all day. Its not gonna change anything.

JimF - I am not at liberty to involve these people without their consent. I can just tell you that mshort and I are two of them and you are not.

Now I could go on and on responding to the above, so I will not. Jim asked so I answered, as I am sure so will he.

To break down all this and possibly discuss it without it turning into another free for all, someone tell me the IA definition of someone who "turns and burns" and what their characteristics would be.

CatDaddy

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

You two young men are so far off base as to what constitutes 'adjusting' and the 'duties of an adjuster' that I have nothing left to say to you other than you have my deepest sympathy.

You're right about one thing though. I'm not one of your 'little group of 10' and I'm damn glad. I would be ashamed to be associated or affiliated with such a group in any way.

Good luck fellows.

Well, I'll take my Uncle Sam $20. to the bank and get $31.50 - I probably paid $32.10 for it - and go buy some groceries.

I'm not in the 10/11 crowd, never could, and never would; so I never tried.
