How do you close a claim if the insured isn't home? Do you just write them a little note and leave it on the door with the check?

Mshort, you said you worked 14 months and closed 2200 claims, thats 420 days. If you do the math that is only 5.24 per day. MMMMMM I think I can do better than that.

Kile, sure if they are damaged I pay for them, but they are not on my list to look for. I've never ever had a PH call back complaining they I didn't pay for his dryer vent. Just doesn't happen in the real world. Your the reason the staffers have to go back and remeasure, because your spending all your time trying to get a bill. What a shame!

Oh, and where are you finding all these insureds who don't mind you inspecting when they aren't home. 90% of mine want to meet me and show me the damage. You must have all the luck.

Aw come on Kile. You don't REALLY expect him to know what a state's Fair Claims Practices Law is or what it means, now do you?

An 'insurance commissioner'? Why heck, what's THAT? Who's he?

You forget as a staffer, we take 7th day off and actually don't do claims on rain days. There is such a thing as a work # and cell #.

No, Mshort, you're the reason I hate to work cleanup. I get all the damage the first time. I never miss a measurement. I think you are the problem here. If an IA firm hired you and found out you weren't looking for all the damage I think they would want to have a chat with you. Your job is to find ALL the damage. Minor or not.

I see why you guys are frustrated, if I spent all my time analyzing and over analyzing these claims, they would never close. It's not rocket science. See the damage, pay for it and move on.

But you aren't looking for the damage, you said yourself that you don't look at the little things like dryer vents and piddly little things like that. We do it right, you do it half assed.

I'm not perfect, but I try to be. You admited that you don't even look at mailboxes and dryer vents. Sounds to me like you just do the roof and gutters. Do you look at the lawn furniture? What about the flower pots and the lawn ornaments? Those are insured and you owe if they are damaged. If you leave out these things all the time you can never be perfect. At least I strive for perfection. I may never reach it, but you don't even have a chance.

I don't know how the carrier staff labels guys like you, but over here on the IA side, you're known as the '90 day wonders'. You still seem to be in the same stage of cockiness and arrogance that most IA's go through at about 90 days and get through around their 3rd year.

With all you have said about being so sure you were going to find work quickly and be showing off that shiny new Escalade, I'm just curious who in the heck would hire you, given what you have now said about how you inspect and pay for only partial damages?
