Tom Cheerleader here. Chuck, this is my new install of IC 6.0a. Do my eyes deceive me or is that a large choice of crown moulding with the ability to remove, replace, stain, or paint. If someone says something won't work, they need to know, before they go and make incorrect statements.
Anyone else having problems with logging on. I have been 10 minutes trying to get logged on. Sure hope that gets fixed really soon.

Louise, what is this, a mircowave that can be removed and reset, removed, replaced, etc. If you had done an install over your old program, instead of exporting your claims and data base to a server and then try to install them on the new install, it would have worked. You should have called the tech folks before you did that, not after.

Chuck, just curious, when was the last time you wrote a $100T + fire estimate on site with the insured, his wife and a cocntractor in attendance, and how often do you do this? |

Most of my estimates are written on site. I write an estimate over in the $100,000, on site, several times a year. The last two were in the last quarter of 2002. New construction, those risks insured above the $250,00 mark, have so much detail that it is very difficult to do a scope and transfer it later to an estimating program.
Time consuming initally, but less difficult than a written scope and writing an estimate from the scope.

Tom, everybody would benefit if you would take the time to explain the mechanizations you went thru to acheive the demonstrated results with the supplied Boeckh database. |

Chuck, as the last photo indicates, it is in the resorted DDS database. I am not real excited about the Boeckh database, it appears to be unrealistic on pricing. IC has some problems and hopefully they will be addressing those problems. If there were only the perfect estimating program out there, please tell me and others who sells or leases it. |

Memo to Tom Toll: Tom while I rib you at times for being the IC Chief Cheerleader, I hope you do know that I and others appreciate your posts here on CADO. You especially provide a much needed dimension to cat adjusters and CADO by being the "Go To" guy when anyone has a problem or needs assistance in utilizing the IC/DDS estimating software.
As with so many things in adjusting, few have your knowledge and experience, and few can cut through the extraneous to say it half as well as you do.
On top of that, I know you as a gentleman of the first order and an adjuster par excellence, and I just wanted you and others to know that. You have my highest regards as an adjuster and brother in this adjusting fraternity and family we share.
Thanks for posting here and sharing your knowledge and experience, and heck, thanks for being an excited cheerleader for an estimating program which works well for you and so many others! |

Jim, thank you. The compliment coming from one of the most knowledgeable adjusters I know, is appreciated. |

After being at NACA last week and a long walk from a HS connection that cost $20 per hour plus the fast tight schedule of the event (mainly CE classes, NFIP-TX Wind and the like) I only checked email and still did not get out in the sunshine. There was a lot of "software" talk going on with one vendor given the credit of making the statement in class that the number of CAT adjusters was not great enough to focus on in a marketing sense. While a strong case can be made for that point of view yet it does seem a strange reply when one's product and service is being questioned.
The “go to Simsol” remark noted last week in this thread is interesting as well. When you find yourself in a market segment that you have never been in before it must be stressful. Boston Ventures has indicated that the firm’s ownership will be changing in the future so perhaps its interest in markets will also change with the next owners but only time will tell. On the other hand Simsol without question was the first software that focused on flood and other CAT type of claims that ever built a long term presents in the market so that should speak volumes concerning their long term interest to the CAT adjuster plus they use it themselves in the field.
Well it is packing time for the Windstorm conference this week.

As an independent adjuster who works primarily commercial losses, I have to have flexibility in the pricing database, as do all of you. I am in hopes that the new version will allow that flexibility, if not, then John Postava will get a call. I will wait and test the program first though. It is hard to talk of something that has not yet been sent and installed on our laptops. I have been disappointed in their commercial database and was promised that the database would have a broader range of items and pricing. Lets hope that occurs. If MSB starts leaning toward the big companies and not the self employed independants with their software, then out the window they go.

I have been reading everyone's concerns over the current 6.01a update the data base is a minor problem first all you have you do is copy and rename and you have a working data base. According to DDS (what ever there name is) they did this because so many "green" adjusters were wiping out the data base they just forgot to tell you a few minor things.
There biggest problem is they forget to share the problems that have been arising they seem to think that they only owe the IA company an explanation and not the IA (leesee) who pays for the program.
There are some major problems with this current update the most important is DO NOT USE THE ESTIMATE RECAP it miscalculates and this could be an E & O issue for you IA's apparently some one hit the wrong button. Oh yea watch your line items there are times when the program has a mind of it's own it will miscalculate as well. I won't even touch the spelling or grammer in the reports menu.
It now take 2 more clicks to put a line item in. (Simple don't think so.) What use to take 10 minutes on writing a quick in out claim now takes an hour or longer. I should know I have been hearing so many adjusters vent. Our profits are being eaten up by spending so much time on an estimate just to get it done and then we hear it from the carrier because our reports are late.
I have been sending out emails to the senior programmer etc. But if anyone has any other suggestions in getting them to speed up the fix for this diaster let me know.
What is going to happen if we have a cat. It will be total misery not only for the adjuster, storm manager, DDS techs etc. There are many other problems with this new version that I don't want to bore you with. But we have got to get DDS to understand they need to have a open line of communication with the leese's not the carriers. We pay the leese not them therefore, our input is most important. Talking about disasters. |

Paula from what I understand from a CAT firm in NC they and other firms like the big one in Mobile have gone back to 5.01 by using an small emailed patch provided by MSB that kills the kill switch and turns it back on as 5.02F. A question was raised at NACA week before last as to if the property evaluation module will work in the 5.02F fix. If this info is correct then any Version 6 issue does not have to be a concern this CAT season that is about to open with the Spring storms. |

If you had already upgraded (no option) then you cannot as DDS says go back to the 5.01 version. The problem is DDS thinks that they have the industry in the palm of there hands. I am serously checking into Power Claim. So far it looks to be ver promising with very little transistion period. The costs is half of DDS with excellent QUALIFIED tech support and if you find or come across a glitch I the system you answer and type out problem and it is automatically sent to the programmers. The also have updates and you will be notified everytime there is a update. This is excellent communication skills. DDS should take lessons. They got to comfortable with there product and the end result is there product is suffering. DDS Is now saying unless you are on a ACTIVE STORM you cannot get the rates of certain IA companies. Let me know if anyone is familiar with Power Claim any input would be greatly appreciated. |

I have been informed that I/C 6.5 release date is this week. It is to fix the problems discussed in this thread. I look forward to getting mine and will let all know how it is working. We have been using 6.01A and have not had a problem on any of the 20 claims we have working in ARin the last two weeks. It is still fast when you know how to use it. As I have always suggested, in your time off or slack period, don't just sit on your fanny and fantacize a storm, learn to use your estimating program, what ever it is. |
