Steve, trust me. Lug the laptop! I tried the palm III, not even close to the kind of utility we need. Also Delorme 7.0 is the only way to fly....beats 6.0 by a mile!

The Jotto desk is a wonderful help in the car (or van) The Palm Pilot is great for a lot of thing. This just isn't one of them!

The Delorme 6.0 and higher is by far one of the most popular mapping programs and from what the adjusters have told me, the GPS system works very well. Just a note for the DDS users out there; DDS has built a a link between the DDS Multi-Line Pro and Delorme that allows an adjuster to save all of the loss addresses for his or her claims as a Delorme Map File. This file can then be opened up inside of Delorme and the addresses located and mapped with a couple of clicks. It has been a huge help for adjusters and we have heard nothing but postive comments about this feature. The adjusters have also said that the time saved with this feature pays for itself over and over again. Even if you are not using a GPS system, it will save you time in mapping your routes. If there are any other mapping programs that DDS users would like to see linked into DDS please contact our development office at (888)337-9665 and ask for Brian or Jon. We welcome your input.

Can anyone reccomend a GPS system that I can mount or use in my vehicle. I would like a stand alone system that incorporates a monitor so that I don't have to lug my laptop in the car with me. I could use my Palm III but I think a self contained system might be the best way to go.

I am using the DeLorme GPS with their Street Atlas USA 6.0 CD. Works great, even shows your progress down the street. Has the entire US on one CD. They can be reached at www.delorme.com or 207/846-7000.

The Delorme system with a cigarette lighter plug in is the way to go. Figure out a way to mount your laptop in your vehicle. The Delorme system has a find function that will let you find an address, a directions function that will let you find the best route to where you are going. I recomend this system, highly. 5 stars
