I'm new here to C.A.D.O. and I've enjoyed reading many of the topics on the differant forums. It appears there are many people who have had years of experience and have a lot of good to offer this site.
What I've also read is many people who seem not to be able to adapt to what we've all known for years as an ever changing profession. My question is, would these few people be better advised to seek another vocation, rather than the continued efforts to try and educate them to no avail?

Mark... I noticed on your profile you have been a property adjuster for 25 years. That is not quite equal to the entire time I have been on this earth so I am sure you have much more to add to this discussion that I... but here are my observations in regard to your post.
I have been a cat adjuster for 4 1/2 years and seen trainees come and go and some even stayed. I would say, hands down, if someone is not capable of quickly adapting to change then they will not succeed long term in this field. The change could be as simple as a new form to integrate into the scope process (i.e. Allstate's Roof Process Form) or as severe as an entire new policy to learn every year (i.e. Texas HO-B to HO-A to HO-A+).
I will say, I think it is more than a few who fit the description of not adapting to change well. Of the 50 or so that started within 2 months of me, less than 10 are left.
As far as trying to educate them, not going to happen. If a person is not internally motivated then all the classes and personal attention will not create a successful adjuster.
Just my 2 cents... Jennifer |

I see that my favorite active moderator has provided an excellent comment to Mark's opening post.
Keeping with her theme in another thread she started regarding Claims Mag, I note two articles in the February 2003 issue that touch on this subject. These two feature articles are related to education and the 'mechanics of change', the difficulties and proposed solutions, for both 'employers' and 'employees'; to better face the world of adjusting. |
