Most professionally oriented associations have a Code of Ethics. They are the "rules" by which the members conduct their affairs. I suggest our proposed organization formulate a Code of Ethics.

To assist in this future discussion, I offer some web sites that detail their Code.

The first, is a good "why to have a Code, and how to formulate a Code" article, with the remainder being a small sample of what is available through a Google search.

Here are some draft Codes for discussion purposes.

Code of Ethics

(1) I suscribe fully to the Mission Statement of the Organization

(2) I will show character through trust, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship

(3) I will be honest in all dealings, and will not deceive anyone, cheat or steal

(4) I will be reliable at all times, will do what I say I'll do, and have the courage to do the right thing

(5) I will always do my best and do what I am supposed to do

(6) I consider consequences before acting and know that I am accountable for my actions

(7) I will obey all the rules set before me in the performance of my duties, and respect authority

(8) I will continually strive to better myself in all areas

(9) I will treat violations of this Code or the Organization's By-laws as inconsistent with membership in the Organization

This almost sounds like a boy scout oath. Another one that needs a lot of work. Something to start from.

Alan, I left out "Be Prepared" so as not to capture the essence of what Lord Baden Powell intended to instil in the youth movement he founded and that you mention.

Again, it was just a start, and again aside from a simple critique; your efforts on the work this segment may need would be more fruitful to our cause.

How about:

On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to the insured, the carrier and my vendor and obey the laws of the state I'm woking in this month. So help me God. (or which ever deity you prefer)

Sorry, Ghost, I had Chinese for lunch shortly before I wrote that and it appears to have affected my spelling. (or is it effected?)

It was the wok and roll music that was playing at lunch that did it.
