I would like to know if there is anyone out there currently working that could use an apprentice. I went through ICTC Abilene last November and took the Texas license course and Exactimate training. A bit about my back ground. My main field has been as an architectural CAD drafter for the last several years. But in 1998 after the mega storm hit the Minneapolis area a friend talked me into going to work with him as a storm chaser doing roofing/siding sales. So I became intimately familiar with the procedures and whatnot that adjusters had to go through. I thought to myself that that would be a great career for me. When the opportunity presented itself for me to take the ICTC course I jumped at it. Signed on with Wardlaw and here I sit still. Have license but no one will touch a new person. Would even consider working mold claims as that seems to be where the majority of the work is right now.
Hi Chris, You may wish to sign on with a couple of other vendors. This time of year most companies are looking to add to their rosters. Of course getting on a roster does not equate to work but it does get your name out there.
One of the problems we have in our industry is the hot and cold cycles of work. When the mega storms hit it looks like a great job from the outside and this often leads to false impressions.
If we have a good hurricane season I'm sure you will have plenty of opportunities. The “if” is a big part of this industry. However, just don’t bank on it and you may survive the cold cycles.
