Just bought our 1st DeLorme w/ Street Atlas 2003. Does anybody know how it works? Tech Support was no help. You call the 800# and they give you another toll# to call and we were on hold for over an hour and a half!!!!!

Specifically:
1) How do you load the streets to your hard drive?
2) When trying to voice modulate it says that the sound card is being used by another application.
3) How to make it track you.

if you can email help or answer this on Forum, we would greatly appreciate the assistance. Thanks, Lisa

Clayton, I didn't shout this time! aren't you proud of me?

Easy, easy, easy. With the data disk in the drive go to help. Help is on the top right of the main screen.

The tracking requires an Earthmate or similar and go under GPS to set the options.

I don't use the voice option.

rather than putting the streets/maps onto your hard drive, i'd put the data disc in the cd drive and use it from there. you'll need to plug a gps unit into one of the ports on your computer. i'd be careful about trying to use any program or data that might come with the gps unit at the same time you'rer running delorme- it might cause a software conflice. the delorme software/program will likely have all the gps support you need built into it. somewhere in the documentation it'l;l probaby give you a list of supported gps units, but i think almost any gps will work, as long as you can connect it to your computer. if you haven't already got one, i'd try a garmin model 12 or 12xl- fairly simple to operate, reliable, and economical. you'll need a data/power cable to go with it. sometimes things get real squirrely if you plug the gps in after you're already started the computer. i'd plug it in before you turn your computer on.

The best thing to do, with out any other considerations, is use the new USB DeLorme Earthmate. It is designed to work with the DeLorme software.

Lovin DeLorme, makes me money every day! Order the USB Earthmate, skip any gps that runs on batteries you will be changing them every day.

You can load the data onto your harddrive if you need to, Customer service helped me out installing it on to the C drive. I don't the CD drive for anything else, so I took it back off.

None of the mapping programs work well in areas without 911 or a new 911 area, ie central Missouri.

In St Louis, Charlotte, LA, Dallas and about everywhere else it has been right on the $.

Drop me a line off forum if I can help.
