Thanks everybody, I found a couple of things that weren't on my lists(magnets, blue blockers, and the ubiquitus duct tape).

Newt, I hate the idea of not having everything I need and yet I always end up going to a hardware store for something (my girlfriend thinks I'm just a gadget junkie, can anyone else relate?).

Linda, those Yaktraks sound interesting, but wouldn't they kinda tear up a comp roof?

Some times we have to waste a lot of time in a strange place looking for what we forgot. One of my problems was breaking something that was hard to replace. Although occasions I got the rare opportunity to upgrade.
There is a tape used to cover holes in aircraft also for taping plastic over the double wide mobile homes you see pulled on the highways. Its called hundred mph tape. You can use it to pull some dents on mobile homes. It comes in black and o.d.. The cost is about 8 dollars for a two pound roll. <cheaperthandirt.com> stock# MLT 9006 pp 62 price 6.97. (Black)

Tom, the manufacturer of Yaktraks says they won't even damage flooring. After I read your note, and since I am a kinda of "show me" person, I decided to test their claims. I have now walked on vinyl, ceramic tile, carpet and hardwood flooring with them on and absolutely no damage at all. Whew! thank goodness! Yes, I am either a brave soul or just really stupid to try it. I don't recommend doing it on a regular basis but I had to try it.

If it ever quits raining, I'll let you know about comp roofing but that may in July at the rate it's going. I somehow doubt that it will damage it any more than me sliding down it will. I've done that! left great black skid marks!

Dave, I don't know if Chuck has them. I know his wife gave him some superdooper ice boots for his birthday but he hasn't 'fessed up to having Yaktraks-he just sent me the webpage. You never know if he's serious or just trying to sucker you into something but knowing how he feels about tools and toys, I took the bait. With the ice they get in Arkansas, he ought to have a pair though! You can bet he will figure out a way to improve them!

I may order another pair just in case. Not a bad thing to stow an extra pair in with my emergency kit in the trunk, which by the way includes a down blanket that rolls up to about half the size of a laptop, Heat Factory packs, Power Bars, water, and the usual first aid stuff. Living in the Rockies for 20 years gave me a healthy respect for being stranded. Yea, I carry a lot of "stuff" with me but you just never know...

Linda, after reading your post about Yaktrax I did a search on Lycos and found them at Great Outdoors Depot for $42.00 for two pair including shipping. After reading the blurb and looking at the pictures they had I went ahead and ordered them. I'm not fond of planting my rather large posterior on hard ice either. Let me know if you try them on a comp roof. I know what you mean about the rain, I just moved to San Antone.

Yaktrak Update:

NOPE Chuck doesn't have a pair! I ask him why and he said in Arkansas they just use chicken wire and duct tape! Should have known. I did enlighten him on the hazards of wearing chicken wire in the house though. He might wind up in the dog house instead of the chicken house.

Can't believe I got a toy before Chuck and Dave! But I still don't know how you get your tools out of the vest when you have a heavy parka on. Help me out here Dave. I know you're working in the cold country.

Take it from someone who knows Tom, that $42 may be the cheapest insurance you ever bought to keep you in an upright position.

There may be a lot of ice claims yet and as I have said before Mother Nature creates employment for us but doesn't promise fair weather to get the job done!

Tom, I'm crazy but don't think I'm crazy enough to get on a wet roof! It may get wet while I'm on it but it will be dry when I get on it!

Well now, since you asked, i'll tell ya.

I have the EXTRA LARGE, guide model vest. IT fits great over my Columbia ski jacket with the down liner installed. (The colors dont match too well,) so im no fashion plate, but hey, it gets the job done.

Just get one, that is one size larger than you think you need and all the pieces will fit in, , (please make sure to consider the weight factor, mine is now over 30 LBS)

Now Chuck, being all of 6'5 and still growing may have to see if OMAR will make him one next time.

Dave, Do you need some help from the fashion police? Or perhaps Christopher Lowell?

Your friend in icy Kansas.
