If you climb it, measure, photo and diagram.

That's the best policy without question.

Eliminates doubts or call backs.

On 1-27-04, JIMF said the following...

......................
Whether blessed or cursed or just lucky, I have other talents and profit centers I can (and do) rely on, rather than agree to adjust roof claims for a 60 or even 70 percent portion of a Fifty Dollar or even Hundred Dollar fee bill.

As 'independent adjusters' we each have not only the right but the responsibility to decide what we are worth. And as such, we thus 'vote' with our 'feet' (or our wallets) whether we will adjust claims for low paying or two dollar vendors.

........................

You young'uns out there would be well advised to read these words carefully, he knows of what he speaks.

Like a frog in a pot of water, the rates will go down and down and you will not "jump out."

Affording to be a CAT adjuster entails a lot more than having enough "scratch" to make it to the next storm. If you cannot afford to support your independence and percieved business value, maybe you should consider this a part time job only.

And before a bunch of you adjusters out there start getting all lathered up over this post, ask yourself what you will be doing and earning 5 or 10 years from now.

Why would you pay a service bill for that kind of work product??? When you do it hurts all of us.

The original question was whether or not one would measure and diagram a roof w/ minimal damage.
Our typical damage is from wind and/or hail so YES,
I usually measure and diagram most roofs. Last year I was involved in having to reinspect losses of other independents. Measuring and diagraming the first time saves an awful lot of trouble if someone does have to go behind you.

If I climb it, I diagram and measure it,unless told other wise. Most Carriers require this anyway.

I try not to diagram/measure if there is no damage. If there is min damage I'll measure the damaged slope/s. That's if the decision is left up to me, However we all know that decision is made by someone else!!!

A previous post stated by measuring/diagraming on the first inspection . You save time for someone if they have to reinspect. Reinspects are usually done by staff or IA's on day rate. So I feel they are being compensated for their time.
