I suspect this will be a new area to many of us who work the hail belt and Florida. If the patterns continue and advise from members in these areas will be welcome. Also to anyone in these areas please be very carefull, this could still be a very powerfull storm in 5 days. Ithas 48 hours as a cat 5 and may catch Dog 60 hours and Alan 68 hours before it is done. Areas south are not out of the woods yet but may soon be able to relax.

By the time it levels West Point then we will all have work for 2004.
It seems to me that all the venders are calling real early on this storm.

Catmann some of the vendors are as 'Dizzy over Izzy' as adjusters and that's behind the early calling. Plus it's been a while since it looked like a real one might hit and they are trying to get the spider webs off their phone systems.

Heat, water temperture, drives a hurricane and this one will cross the gulfstream just off the coast.

http://www.weatherimages.org/data/imag388.html will show you water temps off north Carolina and Maryland.

The NHC sums it up, 11am report landfall likely along us centreal east coast, NC to NJ weaking after landfall. this could go up Chesapeake Bay at a cat 3 or more. Chances of a recurve and out to sea are dropping.
Try this water vapour site you can see the upper level low entering NC and the trough coming east and a good view of Issy

New Jersey has NO Bar-be-cue. Lots of Pizza and Subways. Lots of big pumpkins at road side sales.

I am thinking about all those cheese steaks I ate in the Philly/Wilmington, DE area after Floyd. I could sure use one of those right now.

If it goes up the Bay it could be as bad as Andrew, I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, had two hurricanes hit in the '60's that came by way of the bay and they're BIG!

It's about time one came to my home town. Have not had one since '54.

NC,VA,DE,MD,PA all will have the most significant weather event they have ever experienced.

Work will be spread out all over, and if you are heavy commercial your plate will overflow, between the work and the PA's.

If y'all have never worked the North East, better bone up on lots of stuff besides good food. Gas 2.00 Gal, rooms 100+ nite, Food expensive.

This one will really be a test, as in "Andrew" only 25 times worse.

The suspected area is so populated you will not believe it.

I worked the snowstorm there this year... DC area .... traffic is worse than New Orleans or Houston...... After working those 3 places, I never gripe about the DFW traffic

Hopefully,

The claims managers will have the foresight to zip and grid with a fine eye. The distance between 2 or 3 claims may be 10 miles, but "you cant get there from here",

Remember "Andrew" with the canals and no street signs, looking at your loss from 100 yds away and then taking 2 hrs to get to it?

(If you even think about working without DeLorme, you are really in for a surprise.)

Take the time to look over all of the assignments given, please do not work in DC before 9AM or after 3 PM, if possible team up when working in the District. (One of the highest crime rates in the country)

The beltway can take from 1 to 6 hours to make the trip all the way around the District.

Im not saying the job cant be done, im trying to explain the nuances of an area of the country that is different from ANY other area. Be careful, cautious, and always on your guard.

In VA do NOT BRING A PIECE, the fine is 7 years in Jail mandatory for any unregistered piece, even if you are traveling through the state. Also no radar detectors, they are illeagle and are seized.

We all need this work, and it may last a long time, but we do not need any of our people getting hurt or locked up.

Find out all the rules and regs for the area you are going to be working and follow them. Licences are required in several of the states, NY,NC,VA,MD,DE none in NJ or Pennsylvania.

Enjoy the scenery, the leaves will be changing, if any are left.
