Oh PLEASE, who are "they"? and when do they change these estimates. after midnight? When you work for State Farm you have "their" computer in the field where YOU write the estimate, review it and copy the insured and write a check for up to $10,000 RCV on the spot. How is all this changing taking place?

Boy it sounds like you answered your own question when you stated "When you work for State Farm you have "their" computer in the field" key word being "their".

Fpbcal, Didn't you know that with Big Red, they provide the laptop loaded with their captive version of the big X featuring a customized price list assembled by their very own regional or even local pricing specialist. Didn't you know that? I have seen them do extensive research into prices, going so far as to find specialty repair firms that do the work and even sourcing obscure repair items from out of state or region suppliers. I have also seen $.18/SF for exterior paint on the price lists that had to be changed several times before it came up to snuff.

That's why at every storm, new price list revisions go out once or twice a week. That's also why I never worry about the complete accuracy of an estimate, because eventually, most every loss will reqiure a supplement that will be handled by the red shirt kids. All that we can do is to go out and pack the estimate with the correct repair items and issue a first payment.

Last storm for State Farm I handled large losses. Did an agreed scope with a knowledgeable local contractor picked by the policyholder. I wrote my estimate using a State Farm computer and Exactimate. My estimate and the contractors bid were done independent of one another. We met and agreed on a final figure, ran it by the insured, who agreed. I wrote it up for the State Farm supervisor, who approved our agreement. CAPS wrote the check, I delivered it and the contractor made proper repairs. This is not an isolated experience, it is more the sum of my experience with working for State Farm.

What can we do to organize. First of all we can be sociable to each other. We can meet and discuss our vocation and possibly lay plans out to be considered for the future. A union or organization will not work, as organizations are omni present. They have little or no influence on Companies or Vendors. We can form a very strong organization through the CADO organization, no doubt. There must be many involved to ever consider an influential organization. We need to be asking every adjuster we meet if he is a member of CADO. If he or she is not, give them information as how to register. When we become 5,000 strong, we are a serious organization that can have an influence on the people we work for. We need to have information, such as those items presented by Carr, Flynt, and a number of others. We need to start treating each other with dignity, if deserved.Perhaps we can learn something from the animal community. Here is an intersting true story. Please read it and hopefully learn something from it:
Brownie and Spotty were neighbor dogs who met every day to play together.

Like pairs of dogs you can find in most any neighborhood, these two loved each other and played together so often that they had worn a path through the grass of the field between their respective houses.

One evening, Brownie's family noticed that Brownie hadn't returned home. They went looking for him with no success. Brownie didn't show up the next day, and, despite their efforts to find him, by the next week he was still missing.

Curiously, Spotty showed up at Brownie's house alone, barking, whining, and generally pestering Brownie's human family. Busy with their own lives, they just ignored the nervous, little neighbor dog.

Finally, one morning Spotty refused to take "no" for an answer. Ted, Brownie's owner, was steadily harassed by the furious, adamant little dog. Spotty followed Ted about, barking insistently, then darting back and forth to a nearby empty lot, as if to say, "Follow me! It's urgent!"

Eventually, Ted followed the frantic Spotty across the empty lot, as Spotty paused to race back and bark encouragingly. The little dog led the man under a fence, past clumps of trees, to a desolate spot a half mile from the house.

There Ted found his beloved Brownie alive -- one of his hind legs crushed in a steel leg hold trap. Horrified, Ted wished he'd taken Spotty's earlier appeals seriously.

Then Ted noticed something quite remarkable...

Spotty had done more than simply lead Brownie's human to his trapped friend. In a circle around the injured dog, Ted found an array of dog food and table scraps, which were identified as the remains of every meal Spotty had been fed that week!

Spotty had been visiting Brownie regularly, in a single minded quest to keep his friend alive by sacrificing his own comfort! Spotty had stayed with Brownie to protect him from predators, snuggling with him at night to keep him warm and nuzzling him to keep his spirits up.

Brownie's leg was treated by a veterinarian and he recovered.

For many years thereafter, the two families watched the faithful friends frolicking and chasing each other down that well-worn path between their houses.

Tom...Thanks for sharing your opinion....the Spotty and Brownie story was teriffic, especialy if you are a dog lover.....when a dog lover reads it, they will nod their heads in complete understanding....and their eyes will be wet.....the dogs show loyalty and love to their humans without regard for themselves....they will not srew you, they don't care who you are , where you live, how much you make,etc......just unconditional love and loyalty......alas, few are the humans that meet that criteria.....Thanks for the story......P.S my white shepherd is snoring as she lays here in my office--White Shadow Warrior---got the shadow part down 150%..

What we need is some get-togethers. Regional, at state parks. Not just for business, that will develope afterwards. We could have four a year, in different regions sponsored by adjusters in that area. It doesn't take a lot of plans and each individual would bring their own tent, motor home, camper or stay in a cabin. Some would no doubt prefer the motel.
Done that been there, and its more fun than you can stand. We could get our knife and fork certification. Just as soon as I get moved I will throw the first one. I have my houses sold here and plan on moving back to Texas. I got the smoker, fish cookers etc and can furnish the food. If we hold one, I guarantee, the next one will be in the making before we get back home. The location should be sort of centrally located to as many folks as possible. If we can get as many as fourty to attend the first one, the next will be for a multitude.
I think we should include others by invitation also, vendors are people and so are some of the carrier employees, most are interested in our status, if not, they will be. I bet Todd Summers knows what I am talking about. He has been involved in some mini get-togethers at storm sites. So have many others I have talked to that do RV adjusting.
Lets think about this and come up with some yeas or nays, in the meantime I will get one organized if it hair lips mohamud. I will have to get moved first. I am hoping to be moved before Christmas. Its high time we got in each others face. Its a lot of fun for the families and if I hold one, I would expect those with families to bring them along.

Superb idea Newt! Let me know when and where and I'll bring the beans. By the way, this is my first post on CADO, I guess I just got tired of Tom talking for me!

We have a get together at my house the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year. We will have it this year. The only requirement is that you bring something made from scratch. I deep fry turkeys, make red beans and rice and corn machau.

Please email me and let me know how many plan to be here, We usually don't fry but about 5 turkey's, if we are going to have a crowd I will have to brine more.

If anyone is coming from the Nixon, TX area stop off and get a couple of dozen quail. Janice, bring some red boudin and some fried pies. Newt, bring some squirrel mulligan. Linda, we like huevos rancheros for breakfast.

Newt and all,
I am currently working out the files in my possesion with the hopes of being home about a week before Thanksgiving... for those of you who haven't figured it out yet, my home is Lubbock, Tx.
For those of you who are still scratching your head, my home was in Denver, Co when I got the call the day before Thanksgiving last year to come here to Houston and work mold claims for Eberls/Farmers. We have since sold our home in Denver and moved to a place in Lubbock that you are not going to believe until you see it. It was a drug seizure that we purchased directly from the United States of America! 2 acres, wooded, landscaped, brick fence, iron gate, etc. We are planning on around 20-25 family members for Thanksgiving, and we have so much to give thanks for. The first, for me anyway, is to be able to do something that I believe Ghostbuster put a buzz in my ear about, and that is, that I am going to go home and snore in my wifes ear...EVERY NIGHT ! The second and third (in equal order) is to attend my son's high school football games (they are in the playoffs because they are undefeated) and to attend my daughters volleyball games ( she has a tendency to show you that you don't necessarily have to be tall to play this game- boo-ya)
Chuck, if circumstances were different I would bring some Double T wraps (jalapeno sausage wrapped in a tortilla), but I doubt I will be travelling at all for a few weeks once I make it HOME.
However, depending on the number of emails I get confirming attendance, we could throw a hell of an event, should y'all want to come to the "Hub" of the plains. There is plenty of RV parking at my house and Lubbocks hotels and restaurants are "locally renowned". Any time during winter looks good for me at this time, so please include in your email when you would be available and where you are travelling from and if you need an RV spot. And Claude Wilson... I KNOW you will read this and when you do... you are positively OBLIGATED.
Newt... Great idea and bring some a dat "good water " with ya! We need it in Lubbock.

I know some of you are familure with the seafood around Pensacola, it comes from the clean water East of the Mississippi. You can tell by the white beaches, the seafood has got to be good. Anyhow the royal reds are some of the best shrimp you,ll ever eat. I am scheduled for a class in NO and on to Bham on the 26th. Unless I can cut those classes I couldn't make it. I,ll be testing about the time of the get-together.
Todd you are right about the water it is good. I am serious, it even makes the bottle water taste bad. I have a well, and they drilled through rock, its what they call freestone water. Its nine miles to the next road behind my house, so there no chance of contamination. Nothing but forest. I will miss it here, but my wife and I decided it would be nice to be around our kids and grandkids, we got a lot of spoiling to do. So I guess Texas will have to put up with us some more and take our tax dollars. I wont be far from Lubbuck, Just south of Wichata Falls, down near Possum Kingdom Lake (Graham).
Everyone have a good time and if things change or I can change things I would like to be there. If I close out these real property deals before then, that would change things.
Janice, I am glad you posted and it is proof Tom don't lie much, he does have a better half:-)

Todd,
Wooded and Lubbock in the same sentence gets the curiosity going like nothing I've felt in years. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving

Kerry, ok you got me...
Since all of the trees were planted, I suppose wooded is incorrect. Nicely landscaped with a lot of mature trees is more like it.
Newt, my brother-in-law has a cabin lot near Graham!
