I have noticed that on some assignments involving carpet the insurers have asked that we send a carpet sample and pad sample to a company called Itel Labatories in jacksonville, Fla. i have Express same day service packets to mail them in. An assement form is attached listing: 1.) Room(s) damaged 2.) carpet/Vinyl Color 3.) Approx sq. yds of loss
company then gives you report on style, type and price per sqft and overall for carpet or vinyl submitted.
Is anyone else using this service and what is your opinion on their accuracy? On occassion i have been to outlet store in area of loss matched value to sample and found it cheaper than Itel but carrier still wanted Itel value in estimate |

ITEL, I can speak to this. While a CAT adjuster I thought, "what a waste of time". When I became Staff for Encompass, I fought this requirement. I was proven wrong!!!!! ITEL is a valuable tool and they are timely. As we know all carpet is purchased at top dollar! ITEL elimates most problems with homeowners and contractors. ITEL not only tells you type, weight, twist, stitch rate, etc.... It also povides with an average price and multiple suggestions of manufacturer and label. Sometimes the pricing is provided by HOME DEPOT. I realsize none of our insured's shop there (right) but they are the largest retailer of carpeting.
Two examples from my recent past.
1. I picked up sample of English Wool carpet. I estimated at about $95.00 a yard. Price came back....... $139.00 a yard for material only.
2. Had a homeowner provide a receipt for carpeting at $150.00 a yard. ITEL rturned with $24.00 a yard. Needless to say a problem. Sent in a second sample. Same results and ITEL provided us the store where the Insured's 'designer' purchased the rug. You got it. The deisgner purchased for $24.00 and charged $150.00.
Hope this helps. |

I have used ITEL sucessfully in the past. We only use it where there are 3 or more rooms that need new carpeting. They will also evaluate the pad for you. I would use them for smaller losses, but that doesn't usually happen with the carrier.

ITEL establishes a reasonable 3rd party assessment of mostly material prices for (FCC,FCCpad & FCV). It is most productive to use XACTIMATE directly such as on CAT but if requested by Insurance & when handling losses to conclusion and there is a need to establish agreed price with contrators.....ITEL has some advantages. An Insurance may have established a Carpet Retailer Program that will honor the pricing established by ITEL eliminating the rumors that no one can install for ITELs price. There is also Spill-Tech that does wood floor assessment out of Georgia that is willing to send the wood floor product to any given location at the price they quote if contractors concerns are legitimate. |

My experience with ITEL has always been positive. I have used them when my client carrier was unaware of the service, the carrier gladly paid the ITEL bill when they saw their comprehensive report. I have not had any problems with insureds either, there it is in black and white. I have had a occasional designer "lift their nose up" at the results, but I guess so much for their 300% markup. |
