The amount of money you make while at a particular site is usually what makes it one of your favorites. We're human right? But I'm sure thats not always the case and we all have a few that stand out for whatever reason. Whats are some of yours and why?

Towns surrounding Denver area. Money was fair but the traffic was light and "BUBBA"s BARBQ in Greeley made me fat. When you have had a good year, the things I remember are -a friend made and a great resturant found. Matter of fact when I worked in in Ohio- traffic was tolerable, weather was poor, food was lousy, but I made some friendships that made it memorable.

Ahh! Key Largo, autumn of 98. Weather was beautiful. Rented a furnished 2BR condo on the water for $1200 per month. Sushi bar down the street, fresh fish market that had the best grouper and marvelous key lime pie.
Made adequate money, but the best part was working for Mike Scheper at SCS. Class guy and class operation.

Guess there are 2 "cats" that really stand out for me:

1. Davey - I guess about the time you left Key Largo, Mike Scheper sent me to Key West. (You are right about Mike-super to work for!) I was there 3-4 months. I worked claims in shorts for the first time! Several adjusters including my big brother Johnny, my cousin Linda, Stan Culpepper, and Chris Peterson - as well as my buddy Mickey D. Dixon, my son Jeff and my bride, Margy- all managed to break away from the winter weather in Texas to visit me. I will never forget scuba diving on Christmas day that year. Being a poorboy from Texas, I didn't know people could do things like that. Margy and I liked Key West so much that we bought a place here in "Paradise" in July. We really love being here!

2. Appleton Wisconsin was also a good time! I was on steep-team assignment The area and weather were both beautiful (I was there in the summer)! But the thing that made it really FUN was that I met some of the greatest and most interesting adjusters around. Over the years four or five of the group I worked with have stayed in touch and visited in each other's homes. It was amazing how everyone treated you the same--staff, independent, management-even the RTs. It sure made being away from home easy to take. I will never forget all of you that I met there who have become real friends.

kansas City, KS. Summer of '99 ? I was working tornado damage in Lee Summit. Worked with a group of State Farm adjusters out of Phoneix. What a great town K.C. is . I think I almost spent as much money as I made. Great restraunts, great jazz and blues clubs.

Hurricane Floyd in '99, Myrtle Beach for 10 weeks and I really like to play golf. Also summer of '99 in Detroit, MI. Cheap golf and highs in the 70's. Can beat that coming from La.

The grass is always greener on the other side, but it still has to be mowed!

Hmm.... I've been to so many places as a cat adjuster. It is hard to know which was my favorite.

I think I'm gonna have to say the one I am working right now in Southern California. I remember walking through snow drifts to look at hail damaged siding in Chicago and am so thankful to be spending my winter here in the sun! Plus there is the thrill of finding time to break away and be in the live studio audience of 1 or 2 of my favorite tv shows.

But St. Louis, New Orleans, Appleton, and Fairfax all rank when it comes to the town... that's not to say the claimants were the easiest but the towns offered a lot.

Ray, yes Ray, N.D. Craig Baldwin and I did 95% of the hail claims. That included cars, houses, tractors, business, and even a little crop damage. We carried our ladders from house to house. The people were nice and the company gave us complete support. It wasn't a Floyd or a large city cat but it was profitable and very satisfying

One my favorite would have to be the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. Two years in Alaska and a good income also. While the first year was tough the second year allowed for a little time to explore.

Roy, your story of what you did and the 'job' you more or less saw a need for when you first arrived in Alaska is one of the most interesting and incredible stories I have ever heard from adjusting. You shared the story with me over drinks and dinner in LaCrosse, and I know the CADO audience would find it just as interesting and inspirational.

Your creativity in writing the program for boats and inventory was light years ahead of time in cutting edge thinking and you saved the client millions.

Please share your Alaska story with everyone here.

Thanks Jim,

Working on that "Catastrophe" was an adventure and I’m glad I had the opportunity to work it. While we did have a lot claims my work at time was in cost containment. The short story is that the Vessel Tracking system was part of the cost containment that tracked the activity as it related to the contracts of most if not all of the vessels involved in the clean-up. I cannot at this time remember the number but it was touted as the largest fleet in the world. It included a lot of computer work, satellite communications, wide area networks, planes, helicopters and field personnel. Maybe I will get to share more of this assignment at a later date.

We don’t here much about environmental claims or man made cats these days but they can be interesting assignments.

Roy, were you working for Crawford at the time of the cleanup? Several of my friends participated in that assignment and really enjoyed the work.

I too would have to mention two cat sites to express my joy.

1. El Nino 1998. Although I spent the first 10 weeks in Bakersfield, CA alone. I had the misfortune of not being able to secure housing at the local Extended Stay. However, the local Golf and Tennis resort honored Extended Stay's rate of $199 a week. It was one of the best stays ever. I handled wind claims up and down the San Joaquin Valley. Then, I moved down to Burbank (staying at the Holiday Inn Twin Towers) and handled large water losses in Beverly Hills! What a great experience, especially along Mulholland Drive where all the mexican food "roach coaches" hung out.

2. All time favorite cat location, Myrtle Beach, SC. Actually, Cherry Grove (N. Myrtle Beach). The reason? The Bisquit Shack!!!!! Ms. Boots and the gals. $4.00 dinners every night. Spent two storms there with the boys (Gary, Steve, Jonathon, John and Jim). Made some memories. Ms. Boots.... we love ya and miss ya. Hope to see ya soon.
