For making money - my main goal - Proclaim is the best overall for 90% of all claims a cat adjuster will ever see. Has it all and tracks EVERYTHING that we need to keep track of all that concern us. Every other program I use has its place BUT they are all bloated and slow with way more than is needed - too much crap to wade through. My 2 cents worth.. |

I am interested in hearing from anyone who can suggest a good software program or pricing for adjusting mobile homes. If anyone has information I would certainly appreciate a reply! Thanks, Darrell Wyont 512-392-7161 or djackw@aol.com. |

A New Forum Page has now been added to the CADO Site which allows the discussion of an even greater number of topics as well as additional features on the New (or Second) Forum which you will see. This morning I set up the following new threads on the New Forum for the use of users and vendors of estimating software: Xactimate Users and Vendor Forum DDS Users and Vendor Forum SIMSOL Users and Vendor Forum NCE Users and Vendor Forum R.S.Means Users and Vendor Forum Boeckh Users and Vendor Forum PowerClaim Users and Vendor Forum Please use the new Forum for discussions about your favorite or not so favorite estimating software. We also invite all of our vendors to use these software specific Forums for any vendor pronouncements. Let's make every effort to keep the Old Forum Page free of or as minimally free of software discussions and vendor pronouncements as possible and get back to using the Old Forum for the serious and sometimes not so serious discussions of insurance and adjusting topics. I think by doing this we will not alienate our many readers who have expressed the desire for the Forum to be free of crass commercialism and vendor braggadocio. |

I have been in the insurance business for 20 years and started computer estimates with lotus. I am glad things have changed so much. Although some carriers specify what program needs to be used, most don’t seem to care if they get a good product. That still comes down to adjusters. I have found that Xactimate is full of bugs and is hard to train adjusters on. DDS has been slow. Powerclaim is unimpressive. I use Simsol for my entire staff and Xactimate when required by carriers. I have adjusters who know both and are familiar with both whom objectively choose to use the Simsol product. Any time you try a new piece of software you may give it a poor review as you are not familiar with it but, given time, you can make a fair evaluation. Simsol is easy to learn and bug free. Of the 50 adjusters I use, only one still uses DDS and is now learning Simsol with no complaints just positive comments. We will see if she decides to change over for good. Every adjuster may have a favorite and feel loyal to that program. Hell, everyone says they know the perfect sushi bar. It comes down to adjusters and the ease in training them as your staff fluctuates or ease of cranking out good estimates/reports. |

THE BEST ONE IS THE ONE WHATEVER COMPANY I WORK FOR REQUIRES, CUZ IT IS REQUIRED FOR ME TO WORK, AND I LOVE THE MONEY...THE COMPUTER AND ESTIMATING SOFTWARE HAVE MADE APPRAISERS OUT OF ADJUSTORS.....ANYONE CAN POINT AND CLICK....NOT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THE MECHANICS INVOLVED...WHATEVER HAPPENED TO APPRENTICESHIP... AS FOR THE BEST SOFTWARE...XACTIMATE 5.8 AND PRIOR WERE THE BEST PURE ESTIMATING PROGRAMS ON THE STREET, DDS SEEMS TO BE THE LEADER IN ADJUSTING PROGRAMS, AS IT HAS A LOT OF GADGETS AND FLUFF TO HELP CLOSE CLAIMS BY THE POUND BABY!! |

Yes, you are correct. But since lil' Ed's big ol insurance company has chosen to invest in Xactimate, we indepentdents who toil for them are stuck. While I was a big fan of the DOS versions, the windows based versions are to me an unmitigated mess. IMHO, if Xactimate wanted to make a real advancement in their product, they should have gone to voice recognition and bypassed windows altogether. |

I agree with you all Re: DDS being the superior however doesn't xactimate kindof have us by the cookies since many of us get our work from the ever so powerful SF and this is the only format they will accept? What do you all think? |

I understand that each of us have our own preferences in software. I like Powerclaim 99 myself. Found it very easy to learn and use. I can input anything that I like in the database and remove unwanted data with ease. I am even inputing data for the older commercial const. items that are not found so I don't have to dig them up when I run across such items. Can't hardly wait for PC2000 to hit the mail box. I understand that it is going to bigger and better. |

Wayland: DDS has set a high standard in software. They also have high standards in education. My wife and I attended DDS Basic in Arlington,TX. last fall. These people know their stuff. There are other types software, of course,... but for ease, super smart staff, and common sense approach to an adjusting software...DDS won. |

Wayland, Leonard is correct, please review all of the present articles, commentary and suggestions. Items of this sort are an integeral part of this wonderful web site. Each of us has preferences. Some of us are so used to the older and faster DOS based programs that we grew up with, that it is hard to change. You, and other new advocates of the trade, have an advantage in that you can learn one of the newer windows based programs that offer so much more in the data base contents, the reporting aspects, the use of digital photography, the transfer of files via the net and other numerous tools which are included. Some of the most common windows based programs include in alpabetical order, Boechk, DDS, Power Claim, Simsol, Xactimate and others. Each of our preferences are listed on the forum archives. Good Luck |

Wayland, it's a matter of personal preference and the archives are loaded with the discussions. Go to Utilities, Keyword Search, and enter the name of any program you wish and you will find opinions running out your ears. |

I am fairly new in this wonderful occupation of adjusting. I would like to have a few of my fellow adjusters comment on which software is the best. I have looked at some of the frontrunners, and DDS seems to me to be the best. Let's discuss this, please, so that perhaps the finer points of all the software that is on the market can be debated. Thanks, and here's to the safety, health, and happiness of those adjusters out there! |
