Frank:
Here is a "fix" for yur problem... Create a new folder on your desktop with any appropriate name to load your pictures into. You can load them from this folder, into DDS WITHOUT any problems. Part of the problem you are experiencing is a "lack of communication" between your slow "A" Drive and your fast processor and DDS. This will cure your problem every time.

Frank, Have to go with the problem being in the disk. I use an FD-85 and when I get the disk errow message on the camera, I go back and try to re-format the disk and always find bad sectors on the disk. File 13 for it and get a new one. Problem solved.

Try new floppy disc's! I bought a new camera FD75, Lap top "HP" and reloaded MSB/Intregi thinking it was one of the three. "Boy was I wrong to the tune of $2,300.00" it was the disc's!
Cost= $12.00.

You have found one of the gremlins that occassionally appear with digital photos.

It is premature to blame DDS. It also occurrs with Boech Express and our Photoadjuster software.

For the past few months we have been working with a major camera manufacturer's technical lead, in an attempt to discover what is causing the photos to become corrupt.

We have not drawn any firm conclusions, but here is what we know. (or think we know)

Most corrupt photos are caused by write errors -

Write errors occur with any camera, but more often with floppy disk cameras.

What causes write errors?

1. Bad floppy disks.

2. The floppy drive in the camera or computer is dirty - use a wet cleaner on the computer and a dry cleaner on the camera. The read/write heads on a floppy drive actually touch the disk. The heads pickup the rust from the disk. Clean them often.

3. One or both of the drives are out of alignment. - use an alignment disk to test the drives. If you drop the camera, test the alignment. Even if the disk is properly aligned, extreme heat or cold will cause the drive to write the data incorrectly.

4. Smoking - ashes foul both the floppy drive and disks.

5. Weak batteries. Although the major camera manufactures will not agree, our testing has found that a photo taken with a very weak battery has a good chance of being corrupt. We have found that the rechargable ni-cad batteries have an sudden voltage drop if the battery is close to dead and the flash fires. We have been able to reproduce this corrupt photo using ni-cad batteries that have been recharge over 75 times. Don't let your batterries get too low.

6. Stray cosmic rays. (Tom's Tolls thoughts, not mine)

7. Bumping the camera during a write.

If anyone has any knowledge of this problem, please post it.

Mike Stephenson

I am using the Sony Mavica FD75 along with DDS on my Compaq Presario 1255. On some of my files, when I try to upload the pics to the file I will get errror messages, or the file is corrupt and it will not open. It will transfer some of the pics but may not completely open it. If I put the disc back in the camera I can view all of the pics. Today I went back to redo some pics and tried to upload the pics in the field and the same thing happened, new disk, new pics, same DDS file, failed twice. Any ideas? I originally thought it was bad disk, then maybe bad "A" am now thinking bad DDS.
