Golly gee, you have a mighty way with words Ghost. I never thought about it, but I kind of like your pothole analogy. It fits...

But to you Freddy. Claims is not easy, but if you are willing to learn and not afraid to tell people the bad news (no covg) and like to help people (here comes the check), then this could work. I promised myself I would go 1 year, and if it didn't work, I'd leave. Now, it's been about 3 years, and I love it.

I've had a worker's comp claim before and the key from my perspective was I needed the adjuster to listen to what I was saying. If you have a good ear, this could be for you!

Well, Freddie...it's all a gonna depend on whether or not your personality is warped enough to fit into this Bag-O-Fun called insurance, or specifically, Claims. Is'uns you a problem solver? Do you know that the national anthem of Claims is the old Eagles song, 'Take it to the limits, one more time'? I suggest you listen to it several times and absorb it's meaning.

We solve other peoples problems with a greenback poltice. We always deal with people at their worst. Our public relations image is that of the canniblistic ogre under the bridge, even tho we know that we are the heroic knights come to slay the dragon. Do not come into this field with expectations of personal granduer or respect. Those qualities are reserved for sharing war stories with your peers in the future.

For many of us, Claims was a pothole in the road of life that we stumbled into, since it seemed to fit our rearends, we never climbed out. If this pothole fits your rearend, have a seat and stay awhile.

Freddy, run for it - right in their front door - with open arms, an open mind, clear ear channels, and clean glasses. With the limited info you have given us it is still clear you have been presented with an opportunity to start a career in a great and enduring industry. If I get started here I'll go on far too long about how great - in the overall big picture - a career in claims can be.

The very best to you with this opportunity.

Watch, listen, learn - and enjoy.

I know this site is specifically for CAT, but I have a general adjuster question. Hopefully no one minds.

My company is downsizing and I am now looking for another job. I am not currently in the insurance business, but I have a family member that has been for about 20 years. He has given me a contact to interview for a liability or work comp. adjuster position with one of the big three adjuster employers. I was offered the position this morning. My question to all of you is... knowing what you know now about this industry and the job, would you encourage me or discourage me from going into this line of work? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
