MN does not have a cat license but the state does require that a cat adjuster register.
For the specifics see: http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/stats/72B/03.html

Jim's advise looks sound to me.

With the cost of a MN license being $80 per year I wouldn't get one without wanting to use it. There are no study materials for the MN test. It is setup so that if you have more than one year exp. and read the law you should pass it.

Jerry, in most states the adjuster license is for in state residents and the cat adjuster license is a temporary license for out of state adjusters. In many states which do require a license to adjust claims during a "cat", having your home state license is what that state wants to see.

You don't need the casualty portion of the Minnesota license in order to handle catastrophe work.

If you are interested in handling casualty work, may I suggest you attend the Vale National Training Center's 3 week casualty class. It is excellent, and casualty takes a lot more study not only to pass the license exam, but also to handle casualty claims.

Please feel free to email me if you have additional questions.

I'm new to cat adjusting and am applying for a license. Minnesota has both an adjuster license and a Cat Adjuster license. Which do you recommend? I do not expect to be doing any adjusting in Minnesota, but it seems it would be good to have the license anyway. Do other states look at your home state license as a requirement for adjusting in their state?

Also, I was not able to find any available training for preparing for the license exam. I studid the best I could on my own and passed the fire and allied program but failed the casualty test. Considering that I plan to work only in other states, do I need both credentials on my license?

Thank for any help you can offer.
