I am Bill Ferguson, the owner of The Roof Co. Sales may not be for everyone, but helping people with the claim process and getting them a free roof is not that difficult, especially for an adjuster.The hardest part of my job is to teach someone how to measure a roof and itemize an invoice. Being aware of the time delay in getting paid, you are paid when you sell the job, and you are paid when it is collected.We even have provisions for partial payments each day for jobs contingent upon approval.And yes, the asbestos roofs are paying an unusually high premium.

MY HUSBAND TRIED THE ROOF SELLING BUSINESS ONE DAY. WHEN HE SHOWED UP THERE WERE THREE OTHER ROOFING COMPANIES ALSO THERE CRAWLING ALL OVER LIKE ANTS. THE HOMEOWNER WAS JUST COLLECTING ALL THESE ESTIMATES. ALSO YOU DO GET PAID WHEN THE JOB IS COMPLETED, BUT MAY HAVE TO RETURN TO THE HOMEOWNERS RESIDENCE MORE THAN ONCE. I LIVE IN A LARGE METROPLEX AND WE COULD BE TALKING 1 1/2 HOURS ONE WAY. LET'S FACE IT GAS IS NOT CHEAP NOW AND WE DECIDED IT JUST WAS'NT WORTH IT.
BUT GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE ELSE. IT WAS JUST OUR OWN PERSONAL CHOICE.

And you don't get paid until after the work is done and the bills are paid. Usually two months or more. In a sales job like that, you are also dependent on the honesty of the accounting on the job.

When was the last time you met an honest salesman?

Know before you go!

Having been a roofing contractor and getting my start selling for a large roofing company, let me make it easy for you.

Average commission - 6% of gross sale. $ 3,000.00 comp roof $ 180.00. Paid when roof put on and paid for. 2% for selling roof. 2% for overseeing job (solving any problems) and 2% for collecting roof.

Average profit margin 25%. 25% of $ 3,000.00 -
$ 750.00. How does a 25 / 75 split sound?

All this and you do all the work. Percentages may change, but you can do the math.
