Let's not forget that most cat or property adjusters started out in their youth as contractors, or roofers, or some such line of business before they became "seasoned adjusters".
Thanks for your support, Mr. Rhodes.

There seems to be a(n)(underlying) dark cloud hanging over the heads of some adjusters that have been forced to sell roofs to pay the bills. And I have to wonder why? Several names on CADO (prominent contributors to the site) have sold roofs in PA, VA, LA, KY, MN, WI, etc. over the past years since '97 and i see they are not stepping forward and "admitting to their crime", (of selling roofs)if that is the case. I see some of these same people are of the ones casting the "dark cloud" on adjusters "turned roofing salesmen".
In a sense, we are all wary of any salesperson, be it cars, vacuum cleaners, or roofs.
But look at it this way; If you are a good adjuster, chances are you would be good at selling roofs because you want to protect your integrity. By that, I mean, we would not try to sell a roof that is not damaged; we confirm damage first. We climb the roofs and get accurate measurements. We know how to work with the adjusters and their figures. Of the sales team, the adjusters stood on one side of the fence of integrity, and the true "salesmen" stood on the other side of the fence. It was clear at the meetings that the adjusters had their reputation to protect with the given situation. The true salesmen were only after the buck, which is wrong. and that is where the difference lies..

If we could, we would be working claims, but things are not like they used to be for independents, so many of us have to sell roofs from time to time. Right, Dave?
And just for the record; There were 8 of us independent adjusters working for the same roofing company in new orleans within a 2 month span. All 8 of us visit CADO regularly; and our names are seen often. Also, all of them are respected as true professional adjusters by the community and CADO. We were all in the same boat: "the checkbook just got too low".
If vendors paid us while we aren't working claims for one reason or another, then we wouldn't have to sell roofs or hang sheetrock and everybody would be happy, right? But the reality is, they don't.
So to those of you who have a problem with adjusters selling roofs to put food on the table, i challenge you to come up with a better plan for survival. Jim F; you say go to school; school costs time and money. We sold roofs cuz we didnt have money to begin with. Time and money ran out before the decision to sell roofs was made. Fact.
Besides, what if a cat comes in during school?
