I had ATT for a couple of years and really became frustrated by the lack of coverage in large metropolitan areas, ie Washington, DC and Dallas, TX. I finnaly droped them for Southern Bell and find it to be a better server.
When I was in Dallas I was continnually getting droped during conversations or just couldn't dial out and I was only 2 miles from downtown. I latter was told that ATT had the use of only 1 tower in the Dallas area.
The cost from Southern Bell for the same program is cheaper and in my opinion better.
Just thought I give my opinion.

From my experience AT&T is the way to go for cell phone coverage. Good rate and the best coverage. Re an ISP you might want to check out http://live.altavista.com/ . This is a free service and I have had no trouble getting on anywhere in my travels.

I have had several services and when in areas that have special "deals" have subscribed in that area. However the best I have found is ATT. There is no charge for roaming or long distance and you can specify a plan with the minutes that you think you will need.( i.e. 600, 1000, or 1400) I think there is a promotion that will increase the minutes also. The reason I like this plan is that there are no additional charges - roaming or long distance - and you can change the plan monthly. That is, if you are home you can reduce the plan to the lowest amount and then, when in the field can increase it as needed. Hope this helps you.

I use Sprint PCS Service with really no problems to speak of. I carry the Motorola Startac. Only because it is one of the smallest one out there.
My service plan includes no long distance charges and the phone switches from analog to digital dependent upon the area. I do though pay a roaming charge if Sprint does not have an antenna in the area. Peanuts though on the roaming costs.
