Thanks Medulus for your insight. I can see how teamworking would help tremendously, but is it possible to accomplish this with one staying home or in other words not on the road with the other. Do both people have to be at the site to work together? Can this be done with your co-worker (sppuse-children-whoever), staying at home, say a few hundred or a thousand miles away?

Cdarnett,

I count myself one of the lucky folks who takes their wife along. And this summer I have had my son and daughter working beside me as well. My wife is my not-so-secret weapon. She is an extrovert while I am an introvert. She loves talking to people on the phone. So she stays at the motel and books appointments and answers phone calls. On some assignments that saves me three to four hours a day. She handles the data input and photos as well. When my children work with me, my daughter goes out with me, takes notes, records measurements, does the data inputting and some diagrams. My son handles the photos and some diagrams during the summer. Both kids also prepare maps to get from assignment to assignment, door to door. The bottom line of how Team Ebner works is that when the claims managers are asking if they need to cut back our claims load, we are able to say, "No way! Pour it on!" More claims, more money, more satisfaction all around. We worked one storm last year where they would only assign more claims when we had handed in our last closed file, leaving my wife with nothing to do for days on end. We just packed up and told the cat company sayonora because they didn't know how to take advantage of our potential and consequently were robbing us and themselves of the cash flow we were capable of generating. I realize that not everyone is married or can take their spouse along, but if I were not married I would seriously consider finding a soul mate who likes to travel and has some clerical skills. I think of Rachel's contribution as a significant part of my strength.

I am in the process of finding out as much information as I can about becoming a cat adjuster. I have been reading the forum here all day and have found much good advice. One question I am wondering about is: Is there a demand for someone to handle the paper work end only of cat claims? I have been told that one company in particular (who I won't mention) tells the adjusters (newbees) that two people working together can do the work of three. One staying at the actual site and the other at home or elsewhere handling the paper/computer work. Is this possible? Maybe through the use of dictation or email? If so, can someone tell me how this would be accomplished effectively? Pardon my ignorance. I did read a post from someone around January of this year, who was advertising here for resumes for people to work at home via internet. That post drew heavy critisism, so judging from that, my knee jerk is to say no I guess it can't be done. At the same time, why would this newbee be encouraged to work with this type of arrangement? This was just brought up to me a day or so ago and the other newbee didn't bother to find out more information about how this could be done, since he wasn't interested in working with anyone else at the time. Also, not that it matters, but the newbee only works with flood claims. I would be interested in finding out how if at all this would be applied to all types of cat claims. Sorry for the long post, I didn't know how to say this in fewer words. Insight would be appreciated.
