“The last hurricane that hit Hawaii was Hurricane Iniki in 1992, and Kauai took the brunt of the damage,” said Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito. “Hurricane Iniki caused almost $2 billion in damages, which is about $3 billion in today’s dollars. It can take just one major storm to cause severe property damage, and we urge you to be prepared.”

"Tropical Storm Arthur, the first named storm of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season, is slowly churning its way up the East Coast. Expected to become a hurricane before Thursday, Arthur could make landfall in North Carolina, bringing with it a surge of seawater.

"Heavy rainfall over the weekend in southeast Saskatchewan has some communities struggling to keep up with the influx of water.
It's led to dangerous travel conditions after some highways were submerged or washed out, and several states of emergency were declared.
The city of Melville called a state of emergency just before 9 a.m. CST after significant rainfall in the area.
Up to 15 other communities have also declared states of emergency."
