8 Replies and 3416 Views Foundation Question  3416  8 Started by  Willinsky A friend of mine at the beach in Wareham had a terrible problem with her house during a really bad storm a few weeks ago.&160; Her foundation caved into her basement and there is a gaping hole in her house.&160; She put in an insurance claim and the company won't pay.&160; It's going to cost her 20K to fix it!&160; She's 60, lost the job she had for 30 years because the company closed and only has a 401K to borrow from worth 25K.&160; That's it!&160; I feel horrible about it. My Question ...

Is color taken into account, when roofing tile needs to be replaced I have a customer with a tile roof, that is no longer manufactured. All of the salvage yards have been searched, and the tile or accesories are not available. The carrier claims color doesn't matter, and suggest using a completely different product . Also they only want to replace 30 foot of  ridge. This means the homeowner will have 2 different types of ridge. I cannot warranty a repair like this, and it will look hor...

2 Replies and 3549 Views New Adjuster needs opinions on types of work.  3549  2 Started by  newadj09 Hello, I would like to ask some of the adjusters on this site what are your thoughts on types of work. Q. Do you think that adjusting whole house projects are better than adjusting smaller more volume residential projects. I.E. flooded houses vs. roof claims. Insurance vs. sales. I have some options and would love your knowledge and experiance to help me with this. Thanks.

We all had a lot of fun with the CP example that Steve posted last week or so. Well this is a HO-3 total loss on Bld. UPP etc. with lots of questions on duties of the carrier and adjuster. Just draw a diagram and zero in on the meat, don,t think like a person that hears the sounds of galloping hooves. Think of horses.... not zebra's. All the facts have been given to answer all the questions the carrier may have. It is you job to tell them what to do.Act like a General Asjuster.

This is how dwelling claims were settled 50 years ago and brought back one or more times in the last 15 years. I have called several people working on storm losses and branch assist for all the large carriers and also the large vendors. I think this will stick this time and the FICUS TREE anf other factory type schemes will not work on homeowner claims. I think this is the best way to settle claims. The new people will be able to give up a month or so of income to do ride along ojt training. The...

7 Replies and 6480 Views giving the insured a copy of the narrative report  6480  7 Started by  Leland I never before  had an insured or attorney ask for copies of my scope notes/narrative report/ etc, recently I've had two requests. In California, depending on who you ask (attorneys, file examiners) the insured may even be entitled to a copy of the narrative report (with some exceptions, and possible redacting of certain details).   If the insured asks for the narrative report you probably have to send it to them, ask your carrier for guidance. You may be able to assert that it is no...

The set up for this one is simple.&160; The coverage questions may not be.&160; Mary has been watching Joe mow his lawn for the last two years with his riding lawnmower.&160; She has grown envious because she only has a manual push mower.&160; But she is not sure she wants to spend the money neccessary to buy a mower like Joe's.&160; So she asks to borrow it to try it out.&160; Joe, being a good neighbor, assents to&160;letting Mary borrow the lawnmower.&160;&160;While it is in Mary's ...

9 Replies and 8617 Views Nationwide HO with NFIP flood inside the policy  8617  9 Started by  Ray Hall Nationwide is requesting permission to put the NFIP policy inside one of their own policys and I think it would be a Homeowners 'risk of loss' policy. This would be a good marketing tool as all the Flood damage would be underwritten by the Fed. Or you could look at it as 100 reinsurance on the flood peril. I am assuming I am the adjuster on a building within 100 feet of the Atlantic or GOM. If the single policy was a DP- I can see problems with ACV problems on percentage of wind-flood damage ...

15 Replies and 6276 Views Regular Claims, its a snap  6276  15 Started by  Ray Hall The insured has two autos and their Homeowners with the same carrier. My assignment was  theft of personal property from the auto that was parked in the residence driveway overnight.   The investigation brought out the following. The theft about 0300 hrs. as a new mother 2 houses away saw 2 men in baggy clothes walking down the street and an automobile driving up and down at a very slow speed. They have been working this area and the same description is given to the police...

I just started working for a company that wants me to depreciate not only materials, but also labor.  I know this has been an industry wide debate for years, but what I would like to know is if there is a written standard floating around.  All help is appreciated.

3 Replies and 3344 Views DOI just doubled policy limits for Sayre Fire victims due to vague policy language  3344  3 Started by  Mike Smith I handled 30 claims (about 25 were totals) for the Oakridge Mobile Home Park in Sylmar.  The park has 600 mobile homes and 485 were totals, with all the rest having at least heavy smoke/ash.  The whole park is closed down, so even if your house made it through, you still can't move back.    These are also high-end mobile homes, with most being triple or quadruple-wide with brick steps and skirting.    Anyway, the point of all this is that there was a line in t...

8 Replies and 3527 Views Are Standard Contents Limits Adequate?  3527  8 Started by  nixonjf I'm curious, in a total loss, are standard personal property/contents limits sufficent to provide full recovery. Too low, higher enough to cover most/all situations With increased computers, HDTV, etc., or empty nesters downsizing from bigger homes to smaller homes, does one-size-fits-all percent of the building value still make sense

Was thinking about my old bud John G today when he called me when he was working in Los Angeles on the fire before the last fire. John had just purchase a new lap top and it was sitting on the right front seat when he ran into the rear of another car and the lap top flew into the firewall and broke the open screen off on the plastic-metal case.. and it cost more to replace than to repair, about $2,000.00. Being an old auto adjuster I advised him to turn&160; his puter claim to his&160;Homeowne...

It was always the Texas Policy and the other 49 states policy. Nothing changes in Texas. This session of the legislature has a bill on ALE coverage for mandatory evacuation from Hurricanes. This is really a good bill to consider , it could save thousands of lives. How about flood vs wind damage How is the additional cost of this coverage going to be collected How many carriers will not go along with coverage Can it be provided this storm season Should the gross claim have a 80/20 co -pay...

2 Replies and 4117 Views Arbitration  4117  2 Started by  Bruce I was told this week in Florida, If a homeowner request arbitration, the home owner can not use there contractor which will be doing the work, and the insurance company  has to hire a non bias person to do the arbitration. I understand the umpire has to be someone neutral
