This is the time of year California starts getting the Santa Anna winds and the old timers will say if you dont work the hail in the spring and summer and Calfornia in the winter " you an,t going to make it"

Most of my winter work in the past if there wasn't a good cane to keep me busy came from flooding, weight of snow and in some years freeze losses. I remember working some freeze losses in Orleans that were good size claims because the water lines are in the attic and when they burst they cause damage from the ceiling to the floor and Orleans is not a bad place to winter. In my adjusting career I do not recall ever having or needing to winter in California, I can only recall three assignments that I was on in California during the winter, fires in 93, Northridge in 94-96 and the Northridge reopens thanks to the commissioner 1999- 2001.

Some of the best losses (large bill) have been in the TX or Louisiana where the pipes are in the attic and not insulated. In Houston were had christmas freeze in 83, 89 and a few years ago. I was working  monster water losses from houses that were vacant and "winterized" by the mortgage company. Months later the house,s were sold and the undiscovered pin holes in hard copper pipe (on the bottom between the ceiling joist) the water turned on after closing all most of the ceilings on the floor when the new owners started to move in. (To get all the water out of the lines, the plumber must blow them with air pressure)

     Thanksgiving 1990,

I was sitting in a foxhole along the Saudi /Iraq border freezing my hind end off, scared to death that those sic F@#KS were gonna drop nerve gas on us.

Every Thanksgiving after that was and is gravy.

Robbie, I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, but thank you for your service.

In the past, I have spent Thanksgiving in Florida during Hurricane Andrew in 1992, California for the earthquake in 1994 and 1995, Maryland in 1996. back to Florida in 1998.
This year I spent Thanksgiving at home; my son that lives in Hawaii flew to Texas to spend the holkiday with us. He will soon be deployed for a second time to Afghanistan.
I would not have missed this visit. I have only missed on Christmas, that was in 1996, my granddaughter's first Christmas. I was not happy. The vendor we were working for
didn't provide anything for us and we ended up eating at an IHOP. We had a steak and eggs and they closed at noon and there was nothing else open in Eugene, Ore. I swore
I would never miss Christmas at home again and I never have.
Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving and even though not many of us have worked in a while, we have a lot to be thankful for!!!! God is good. Hope to see all of you on
    the road soon. Barb Harthcock
