There is one possible solution to carrying a ladder other than on the roof or in the vehicle, and that is a receiver/hitch-mounted ladder rack. Similar to a hitch-mounted bicycle rack. I've seen photos on a website before, but unfortunately now I can't find it. I realize this won't be practical for a standard 26' extension ladder w/ 13' per side, but it looked pretty durn handy for a LG or similar fold-up "multi-purpose" ladder. I'm in the market now for an extendable 26' fold-up ladder (shopping for the Werner MT-26) and wanted to look at options for hauling it around. If anyone is familiar with this hitch-mounted ladder rack or knows the website, please let me know. I will probably try to post a new thread too just so I can get more eyes on it. I've searched the forums here, and googled "hitch mount ladder rack" until I'm blue in the face and so far I'm not having any luck finding it again.

Cheers all,
Scott Flinchum
Cabelas has a reciever mount ladder rack. The web page shot doesn't show it set in the high position. It's reversible so you can set it low bed heigth or high above tailgate. Part # 51-2499

Thank you weadjust.  I've seen those receiver mounted truck extenders that work as the back half of an over-bed or over-cab ladder rack.  Unfortunately that's not what I'm looking for, I hope to find a hitch/receiver-mounted ladder rack that holds the ladder vertically.  I created a new post that has more details of what I'm looking for.  Didn't want to keep hijacking TXAD's original topic.  :-)

The new post is here:  http://www.catadjuster.org/Forums/t...fault.aspx

Cheers,

Scott F.

No threat of hijacking the thread, Jack, but thanx for the concern.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Be safe.

I have a crew cab pickup with a tonneau cover. I loosened the cover and installed a headache rack, then reattached the cover. Next I got an adapter for my receiver hitch that turns the one receiver into two receivers, one above the other and staggered in length. I have a ladder rack/bed extender that slides in the top receiver. The top of the ladder rack is adjustable to exactly match the height of the headache rack. The lower receiver is the one that I pull my travel trailer with. I had to customize the headache brackets to allow me to keep the cover on the bed. A bit of trouble to put together but this works  great.

This sounds like a setup that I could use, but does the headache rack require the use of the truck bed holes?  Mine are covered up with the Roll-N-Lock cover.   I'm not sure how the rack would install without access to those holes.

I have seen ladder racks that go from the front bumber to the back bumper. This way you can pretty much carry any size ladder and it does not impact your bed. I have seen both factory made styles as well as custom made racks from aluminum contractors.

They use this style quite often here in Florida for all the pool enclosures being built.

I used the holes even though they were covered up by my "ARE" tonneau cover. The headache rack brackets that attach to the bed  holes. Once attached, they are bolted to the headache rack.  The brackets were not wide enough to do this so welded a flat piece of metal onto the inside of the brackets. This moved them wider at the bed but kept theame dimension as the rack itself. Next I shimmed the side rail of the box on both sides 1/4" to to bring my cover up in back to the same height that the bed brackets had raised the front. I used rigid weather stripping.  If your cover uses the holes in the bed, you shoud be able to reinstall it right through the headache bracket. My rack only needs to use the hole near the box on each side.
