We are talking about independant contract adjusters for short term weather related catastrophe work. This is the year that many of the under funded vendors who do not have the ability to pay twice a month will have to merge, close, disband. Probably about 30 to 40 % of all the vendors any of you have heard the name off can make payroll as agreed and will get the best adjusters .IF the weather dictates.

Ask for the contract NOW and see what you have to fight about, because its always a fight with some of the same people ever year.

Ray Hall -- I am not questioning  your judgment,

(I don't know enough about the subject to do so)

but why do you think more vendors will fold this

year rather than folded last year or will next year?

Are you talking about closer margins, being paid

more slowly, lower working capital,  economies

of scale issues,  or some or all of those?

I'm thinking he's inferring that its shaping up to be the 3rd slow year in a row, that general macroeconomic conditions are obviously less than optimal, that competition will be fierce, and that some carriers may slow down fee schedules or slow down payments.

What is the definition of a competant catastrophe adjuster on Homewoner claims? Many experts (a person qualified to testify in court) will state it takes 4-5 years catastrophe field experience and several hundred hours of classroom work. This person should have at least a high school education or a bachlors degree, good communication skills, sound charactor . The vendor/carrier employment system reqires the employee to not to have a  criminal record and a state lieense if required.

Un fair claim practices law  are almost uniform in all 50 states. They also expect the employee to be able to organize their time ,inspect and close files to their standards  at a no cure no pay rate of 35 to 50 per week.

You all know my feelings on vendors who use warm bodies to keep the phones from ringing in home offices by assigning a "name and phone number" to an individual file to stall for time". This is criminal and must be stopped by the plaintiff bar. And this is the year it started by naming the "worm" ; or otherwise in the unfair claims suit.

The vendors and the carriers know the quality of adjusters they have working and if they can not get the best adjusters and pay on good closed file ever two weeks(not when THEY get paid) and protect them in lawsuites from judgements and cost of defense, they will not get good adjusters. That is what I think. But, it is all WOW.(waiting on weather)

    Again with the worms, Ray?

I have a few thoughts on this, but not enough time today to express them. I am a bit hesitant to predict what will happen on the storm front in a single given year. There are a large number of factors to be considered. The factors mentioned by Mr. Kennedy in his post may be somewhat offset by the elimination of staff positions at the carriers, creating a need for additional adjusters. The carriers will use their own first, then turn to vendors who will use their own first (if they also have claim staff like GAB, Crawford, CL, and others) and then it will get down to the tried and true adjusters and eventually the "worms" of Ray Hall's analysis. There may just be less depth in the first and second layer this year.

I am trying to show my better attitude as i have a lot to be grateful far health wise. The "worm" description is the lowest person on a 4 man drilling rig drilling for oil or gas. This person has never set foot on the rig floor before his first day on the job, and the other 3 members must make sure he does not get killed the first day or kills one of them. This label only last for about one week. In about 5 to 6 years he can climb to be the 3nd under the driller and become the derrick man(up on the monkey board) and also has to know how to mix drilling mud. In about 6-10 years he can become a driller and in 10 to 15 a tool pusher the guy who know every thing about the rig and how to drill a well.

So let me clean the tone of this word. A new person should not be a worm after he/she has inspected and closed files for about one week. So if you have never closed one file you are a worm until you have closed about 25-30: And in my opine you become qualified after about 1,000.

    AS DEFINED IN WEBOPEDIA

worm: 1. A computer virus capable of disrupting a computer program. [After Weik '96] 2. A self-contained program that can propagate itself through systems or networks. Note: Worms are often designed to use up available resources such as storage or processing time. [ANSDIT] 3. [An] independent program that replicates from machine to machine across network connections, often clogging networks and computer systems as it spreads. [INFOSEC-99] 4. Acronym for write once, read many (times). Note: A worm drive is used in recording data on a disk such that the data can then be read but not erased. [ANSDIT]

DANG TIMES ARE CHANGING, I WAS AROUND WHEN A WORM WAS A WORM..... HMMMMMMM

Welcome back, Roy. Your description fits surprisingly well for the type of worm Ray is speaking of.
