I talked with a gentleman this morning that has several accounts that I handle claims for in Arkansas. He has a very livable schedule, (above average), and the companies expect professionalism on every loss. Most of them are commercial losses and they have kept me busy this year.

He was going to Houston to work, but was notified that a vendor had cut his schedule in half. I guess there are enough newbies and old adjusters who will take this cut, but not me. This has become a vendor throat cutting business and we are allowing it, as adjusters. Why in the hell should we, as business men and women, have to work for peanuts, putting our lives in danger, sitting on the side of the road with no gas, electricity, food, or water. It just does not make sense to me. They are cutting the fee bills to get their business enlarged, (and it is all of them) and giving no consideration to the people who are making them the money.

DON'T WORK FOR PEANUTS. IF THE SCHEDULE IS NOT GOOD, DON'T WORK FOR ANY VENDOR. Yep, my hair is standing on end and my black side is showing. I have been an adjuster for 49 years and I will be damned if I will work for minimum wage under these harsh and dangerous circumstances.

I edited my post after receiving a call from a vendor, who I named, but changed. They are sending me a copy of their fee bill so I can review and compare it. Perhaps my vendor was incorrect, we will see. Still, don't work for peanuts. I don't wish to criticize where criticism is not due. I know some of the insurance companies will be in financial trouble over this event and hope that they are able to survive it. The worlds largest company AIG, apparently is reported to be in trouble, as heard and seen on CNN. If livable fee schedules are out there, work, if not, don't work for that vendor. This event is going to be rough and will get rougher. Be prepared and mostly, try to maintain a proper attitude when around your insured.

Well, its been two hours since I talked to them and still no schedule. Perhaps I was right after all.

    Tom,

AIG has been bailed out by all of our tax money to the tune of 85 BILLION by congress as of tonight, so no worrys there.

On the other hand i have been solicited by 22-25 companies and direct carriers who are willing to pay 70-75 of fee schedules, plus all of the ancillary monies.

This storm is andrew on steroids and will provide work for the knowledgeable, true adjsuter for 24 months.

Let the bench warmers and 2 year people do their thing, and when the Pa's AND LAWYERS GET INVOLVED THE CLEAN UP WORK WILL BE OUTRAGEOUS

It seems that an adjuster from Georgia e-mailed a schedule saying it belonged to this particular vendor, which was incorrect. It was from a different company all together. This is how things get screwed up. I will be more careful in the future and check things more carefully before I post. My apologies are extended to that vendor I mentioned. There still is some price cutting going on, which only hurts the adjuster, not the vendor. If your not happy with any schedule, don't work for that company. Houston/Galveston will be going on for a year, so there will be plenty of work for many.

    Tom-

You will especially appreciate the new Citizens of FL RFP documents just posted on their website last evening. Here is a link:

    https://www.citizensfla.com/shared/...8-0016.zip" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.citizensfla.com/shared/...8-0016.zip

This is for cat and non cat files. They have a 100 point evaluation of adjusting firms submitting an RFP (deadline mid Oct 08) and they get up to a 25 point credit towards the 100 points if they offer a discount on the stated compensation schedules. This is in the first zip document. Also in document 2 of the zip docs is further discussion on forms the adjusting firms have to submit where the adjusting firm has an option to offer Citizens either a 5% discount or a 10% discount off of the compensation fee schedule. I have many more comments regarding the documents in their entirety I won't even bother to mention here but leave it to say that the vendor price cutting is  not only being done in the industry (and it is the adjusting firms suffering as well as they also lose that percent not just the adjuster) but Citizens is strongly encouraging it. It appears from all of the items on the evaluation form that a vendor who loses points for not being an experienced adjusting firm can more than compensate for that by agreeing to cut their fees.

Where is this going to leave adjusters who have jumped through all of the hoops in the required training, background checks, etc when now they would have ZERO idea of what each vendor agreed to with Citizens so one adjuster may be paid X while the next adjuster there makes Y in addition to that already being the case when different vendors offer different fee splits.

Everyone will want to read all of their documents in their entirety as the years of experience required has changed for all positions from former RFP's we've read as well as pay scales. For example- Team Lead-daily rate  of  $550. Let's calculate if an adjusting firm agreed to a 10% fee schedule discount and offered a 70% fee split to the Team Lead the TL would end up with about $346.50 per day before taxes and hotel expenses when they show a span of control of 1:7 or 1:10 or more. Where are they going to find team leads with the extensive experience required who will work for a vendor that has agreed to a 10% reduction in the fee schedule.

I was very hopeful the 4 RFP's that have been pulled in 08 were pulled for the better but that is not my take on review of the newly posted docs. I'm curious your opinion on the published 25 points of a 100 point evaluation of a vendor if they offer a discount.

Here is the link to the RFP08-0016 Rebid docs found under the purchasing link on Citizens sight today:
