I live in the DFW are and just passed my state test and wanted to follow/shadow a field adjuster to learn. I can pay, not a whole lot since I'm currently unemployed. I am about to take an Xactimate class so I don't want help with that, just to follow you, see what you do in a day, how you look at things etc.

    Hello Redhead,

    A few questions:

First of all, kudos to you for realizing that an adjuster's time is valuable and accordingly offering to pay for the field training. It would seem you have been watching CADO for a bit and seen the response some rookie adjusters get when they ask for field training and expect it for free.

Nevertheless, (just my opinion and others will certainly vary), save your money set aside for field training, for  now. You should NOT spend ANY money right now outside of XM8 knowledge/training/certification. Concentrate SOLELY upon mastering XM8. Do NOT worry about field training until you have at the least a solid level two working knowledge of XM8.

I say this because the vast majority of rookie adjusters fail on their first and ONLY deployment and the most cited reason for said failure is....lack of a working knowledge of their estimating software (in the CAT industry that is almost always going to be... XM8).

Make NO mistake, understanding how the process works IS important and you MUST know the building components, a construction background is helpful but by NO means MANDATORY. Motivated rookie adjusters sans any relevant construction background can learn a great deal from visiting the local Lowe's or Home Depot and a whole lot of reading.

The reason to learn and gain a solid working knowledge of XM8 NOW as opposed to later is for the most part on your first event,(IF you are working as a CAT independent adjuster) there is minimal if ANY learning curve. A first time adjuster and a hand with 20 years of experience are expected to...close claims...PERIOD!

If absolutely necessary, you COULD learn basic building components on the fly. Learning XM8 on the fly? Eh, not so much.

I will NEVER understand why some people (especially folks who are tasked with writing a clear and concise narrative) use THERE instead of THEIR when referring to another person's actions ;-)
