     Hello All:

I live and work in Houston TX in NW area, I have acquired SF certification in both Auto and Property, I have also gone thru the AllState  Property Eval with Pilot, I do plan to take few other certifications with Pilot and/or Worley like Am FAm and Liberty Mutual in both Auto and Property.

I would like to know from experienced or seasoned adjusters, If there are any certification opportunities with other carriers or smaller outfits near Houston area,

As it is it takes financial toll in getting all these licences and training and travel to go places to get certified.

Any advice to get addl certification under the belt will be highly appreciated.

Yoy seem to be well ahead of a lot of new people. You can start a group of of other new people who live in the area , meet and estimate each others house,s on practice claims. I would be happy to spend a few hours at one of the meeting at no charge. Join claims mentor and work out the details on that site.

    Thanks Ray:
I very much appreciate your offer, which is very kind and sincere, I have already benifitted from your advice to others and have scoped imaginary losses on my roof/kitchen and written estimates based upon scenarios which one can expect in real life, I will take your advice/offer and join Claims Mentor and get things moving there as wellgoing, btw it takes a lot of effort while still continuing an existing business/career, and getting this Adjuster career moving along, but this effort will move forward and postion me to to sucessfully launch this career in time for the upcoming season.

If other Adjusters would like to follow Ray's advice and try to form a group in the Bayou City (Houston area) please do so , I will be happy to join your ship than to start one of mine. I do have latest info on several State licenses and which ones one need to get before others. plus so many little bity useful info about this industry. At the same time I would like to benifit from other valuable info from others.

    Thanks again Ray

There are some other vendors that will be holding conferences in your area later this year. Most of the vendor conferences offer or provide certifications and training for other carriers and programs for example earthquake, Texas Wind and so on. Some may even be free. You may wish to check the calendar from time to time for the dates and locations. The events are added through-out the year.

    Some additional resources.

The Training section of the Classifieds for vendor related events.

In addition to the Calendar you may also wish to check the employer's web sites for event information, click here for a list of employers.

TWIA (Texas Windstorm Insurance Association)  will list their workshop dates on this page >> TWIA Workshops

When I was approved to work State Farm storm losses in about 1994. State Farm,s told us in no unceratin words "this is not a certification" I thinhk others have added these words. You will not work for State Farm untill a state Farm vendor sponsors you and you pass all the written test. I would recommend all new people show some gratitude and stick with that vendor, but send out resumes to all you can find.

Join a group and print out practice estimates on each others house. Put on your business suit and tie and send several estimates and this photo to THIS vendor with a well written letter and tell them you are ready and will be closing files the first day in xmate. If you have ever had to do any reports in your old job, send a copy with the letter, photo and practice files. THIS WILL set you apart from the heard of new people wanting to deployed. Remember most cat. losses involve the roof. Learn as much as you can about roofs and water damage and how to repair before you get all the license you may never need. I have some old closed files in my garage for the Houston Group to read.

If I was appointed by Obama to be his cat. adj. zhar. The first law would you are not one of us until we see proof of 500 closed files. You can black out  the names etc.

I remember back in early years of CADO when adjusters were adding their name to the CADO Roster or uploading resumes, if they listed that they were certified to handle the carrier's claims, I will receive notices from the in house counsel that that they were not allowed to do this and the statement had to be remove from the listing and\or resume.

Many sincere thanks to both Ray and host of this Forum for these encouraging words, I will make it incumbent upon myself to have few if not several complete and closed files, whether hand written or on Xactimate,

this will allow an individual like myself to get my feet wet without the embarrassment of learning on the job, and therby making costly mistakes

and until I can assemble or be part of a group to have a joint session or combined study sessions, I will embark on this journey alone and do complete scoping on roof and the resulting damage due to wind driven rain or falling tree or whatever scenario one can think of. In few days I can expect to have completed a dozen or so completed estimates.

I agree it is more important to be able to handle claims by one self and this journey begins now, and I do thank both of you to show me that.

    Many thanks again
    Sincerely
