Adjusting has become similar to a lot of business. The government forces adjusters or agents or plumbers or whatever to get licenses. This does several things. It raises revenue for the governent, it allows the government to get involved in private business, and it makes a lot of money for schools that open that make a profit off of the governments law.

No longer is it important to have experience and knowledge. It has been replaced by certifications and licenses. For instance if you try to work for an IA company You won't be asked to explain the difference between hail damage and heat blisters; you will be asked if you are "certified" for this or "certified" for that.

A good example is the adjusters license. You pay the state a bunch of money then you pay a school a bunch of money then you take a test that asks you a ton of questions about life insurance-then you are "certified" to be an adjuster.

    Ridiculous.

I have written thousands of MSB claims and a few hundred Xactim8 claims as well.  I am not "certified" either.  Some companies will not even add you to the roster if you have not taken a "course" ect.  From what recall, some IAs offer the course themselves and usually use it as a condition of employment.   I can see where licensing can help everyone to a certain extent.

This is how the plaintiff bar is killing the carriers in TX. The adjusters file is the evidence the plaintiffs present to the jury. The plaintiff always has the best shot with a jury trial. These cases do not go to trial, but are settled at mediation after suit is filed starting at $100,000 each one defense lawyer will settle 30 to 40 cases per week with one plaintiff lawyer.

I think we may have to have strict enforcement  of Appraisal before suit in all states in hurricane zones, by all state laws being changed by the legislature.

I would love to see an IA firm publish the following type of ad:

IMMEDIATE OPENING for the first sixty adjusters who can contact us at the number below.

    Gable roof. Slope A: 40x20 Slope B: 20x14

Area Code = SF of Slope A
Prefix = SF of Slope B
Number = Total SQ of Slope A + Slope B (Round up to next whole number)

You may not get the sixty you were looking for but the ones you get you could be a bit more confident of.

No one ever promised CATO would be a happy family. You put a bunch of independant minded ole f*rts together you will get differing opinions. And sometimes strong words. Thick skins are recommended. Olegred you try (often missing) to talk the talk but there is no proof you walk the walk. Respect must be earned and so far you have failed big time. IMHO

Olegred, Sometimes it is better to be quiet and thought the fool than to open your mouth and be proven one.

Awww, guys. There is nothing here that a good catfish dinner wouldn't fix. Provided, of course, Olegred picked up the tab.

Nope! My oh-so delicate bowels need no further agitation. But I do know about a decent place to feed you fried carp. It's Joe's Place on the south side of Omaha. Lunch will be on your nickle.

That is what I want, fresh carp baked on a pine board. Throw the carp out and eat the board, mmmmmmmm................... good!

That's right, I couldn't for the life of me remember the last name. Chuck, it's not baked, it's fried with the bones still in. And, there's a lot of bones. Not bad as I recall. I'd go back if I was in the area.

Now the best catfish I've ever had was at a joint on the north side of Tulsa while working the Oklahoma floods in, I think, 1987. Can't remember the name of the place but do remember the fish.
