As i am double checking everything to make sure I have everything in order for another deployment. I began wondering what others are doing to get prepared. Today I got the fiver out and was checking everything out and discovered that the reigniter electrode went out for the water heater. It sure would be trouble finding one after leaving home. Also discovered the person that normally forwards our mail will be unavailable for a cpl months so I have to get someone else Always something LOL.

It would behoove us all to take a little time and polish those Cougarpaws before the deployment...

I have set tomorrow (8/15) aside to make sure I have FRESH BATTERIES, INK CARTRIDGES and other necessities ready and packed in the fifth-wheel. Flushing out the water tanks at least three times, so as to get that 'plastic taste' out of the water. Have all my Dockers and Polo shirts ironed and hanging in the trailer. Fresh food, condiments, etc all loaded up and ready to roll. Lots of graph paper, all the measuring and camera equipment. Have to make sure my Xactimate subscription is still valid, Delorme and Norton Anti-Virus up to date, and check the batteries in the laptop, fifth wheel and pickup. Air up the tires, check the fluids, belts and hoses. I still need to find a way to mount my 40' extension ladder under the fifth-wheel to make the trip to where-ever... Once the trailer is situated, the ladder racks can be reset in the bed of the truck for use in the field. It's just getting the big ladder TO the cat site that I haven't quite figured out yet...

I have been reading and following the forums for approx a year now. I wanted to thank everyone for the comments both, good and horor stories. I am pretty sure I have most of the tools/equipment /software and attitude to get my feet wet. I have been on ride alongs and went to schools and currently am licensed in 6 states. Waiting on 7 more. I just got put on standby today, for my 1st storm. I am excited and aprehensive all at the same time. But looking forward to the hard work ahead. Thanks again for all your forum talk. DR

Brushing up on your Spanish should probably be added to the list of things to do. If the models are correct, this thing is heading for Mexico. (Yes, I know the storm is too far out to say exactly where its going to land)

si, si... Espanol bueno... Only, there is no insurance in Mexico... Looks like Dean is moving too far SOUTH to affect Texas as of 10:30 pm Thursday. Order those cases of Corona while you still can. Anyone got a spare LIME???

Model will only start to reflect the data from recons on the Friday runs, then as the storm gets closer to the GOM we can start to get some idea where this might go. There will be many model changes over the next 5 days, they can drive you crazy. Likely somewhere between Belize and NOLA. I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers.

So, my stand by is mute until the next storm.....That is ok. I at least have everything (myabe) that I think I will need. Whew this is a little nerve racking for the new-bee
