There is significant discussion and information about Citizens in Florida.  What is the status of the other wind pools, such as Citizens Louisiana or TWIA in Texas?  Are the other entities better prepared for the upcoming hurricane season?

Texas has about 6-8 IA firms that have a local office in a Texas Coastal City. Contact TWIA and ask for the vendors names and address and then contact them. I know Pilot was on the list about 6 years ago as a backup vendor and may still be on the list. Texas is also on the single adjuster plan, but I do not know how well this enforced. Many states with the single adjuster plan "that works" is the big 5 carriers who have both wind and flood. If TWIA is primary on wind and small flood carrier is involved its not likely one adjuster will get both. The ole time flood adjusters know where the buildings are located and the water depth before the surge goes back out. Many have the dec sheet in hand before the storm comes in. Nothing wrong with this, just good preparation. Cant speak for Louisiana.

If a major 3,4 crosses Florida and then goes back into the Gulf, you know that answer.

I believe that the TWIA claims are still headed up by Reggie Warren who has a very strong claims background, has been heading up the claims division there now for 12 years as of January and came from an IA situation before going to TWIA. I personally know the work ethic and product he did back in the 90's and he is someone that knows first hand both the hands on, in the trenches part of the business and the boss/management end of it. They used to have 3 IA companies I believe (one in or near Corpus, one in Houston and one over in the Beaumont area) and these 3 had a certain amount of dedicated adjusters that did the daily work for them, and were also dedicated for cat situations. There were also non dedicated adjusters with the vendors that picked up the slack in cats, and I think they had other vendors that would also fill in during cats. TWIA had and I believe still has a very competitive fee schedule, and even paid a little extra if you used DDS estimating program (shows some age here), but I would guess it is still that way for the program they use. I haven't worked for TWIA in the past but would if the situation presented itself and I were looking for work. I have been out of the mainstream cat adjusting somewhat for about 5 years, but when I get back into it I will definately look up doing work for them. I haven't gone to any of the training sessions since back in 2001 or 2002 and I know a lot has changed since then.

If recall correctly the LA Fair Plan was taken over by AIG just before Katrina.

Res ipsa loquitur.    TWIA, run by Reggie Warren, is a top gun organization. Attend their mandatory claims meeting with all expenses, learn from the meeting, apply disciplin, honor, integrity, and character. You will be rewarded for a job well done. Reggie has bruises on his butt, and blisters on his fingers. He has field experience and management experience. What more can you ask for. He also has a very good personality.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
