I'm sure there are a lot of itate IA firms out there today. After working hard to file the necessary paperwork before 02/05/08 Citizens has now cancelled their RFP until a further date. Various reasons are given, none that would aalay concerns about the direction of this carriers claims handling direction. A lot of info on the subject is posted on www.claimsmentor.com

Typical beauracracy baloney. With all their rules and regs, they will be hard pressed to find good adjusters to work their claims. This has gone from bad to worse.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

    Tom:
Several IA friends & I are of the opinion that the last thing some of the vendors want any more are good adjusters. "If its not in the data base, it does not exist." Or, "All wood floors can be repaired. None should be replaced."
Was at a Citizens certification conference a couple of years ago where the speaker said we could pay no more than minimums on carpet, paint, etc.
When the insured has 60oz Berber (I can give you $18.50/yd for that! Isn't that something?) or "For that 5-layer faux, I'm allowed to give you the princely sum of 32 cents a sq. foot."
I am guessing it all goes back to the now resealed McKinsey report. Delay, deny, defend. Why pay an IA to actually close a file?

This line of work has become so pathetically unstable.  It's sad to see what's happened to this profession.  It's been nothing but a constant stream of unhelpfullnes, kickbacks and indifferent changes that have added nothing new or fresh.  I'm not going to completley stop or anything.  But Independant adjusting is now just a shadow of its former self.  Insurance company's will penny pinch us untill we are payed virtually nothing, because they can.

I am sure all of us have taken time away from our family and friends, only for a decent amount of claims that ended up being kicked back 7 times because the font size on your scetch is to small (true story, only 2 moths ago)................................  And comming back praying your gas bill was covered.

Are they perhaps planning to hand off claims to a TPA and wash their hands of past issues?

    To All:
As a Florida Resident I am appalled at the conduct and ethical/morale mantra of Citizens Property Insurance Company.

As an adjuster, it is hard for me to understand how the DFS can hold the private carriers to a high standard of service and fair claims handling, while allowing Citizens to run rough shod over the rights of the insureds as outlined in the contractual agreement called the Policy.

I wish some law firm would sue the hell out of Citizens for bad faith ...or better yet do it as a class action suit.......

    No, I am not a PA.......I am a staffy....

    That's my .02

Since my extensive Special High Intensity Training here at the massage parlor,  I am now a card-carrying certified "Doorman".

We are having a "bust" season and it's great!!

Now that I have a second profession,  I don't care what Citizens does.

Hate to say it, (especially in these hard times), but in the words of Nancy Reagan, "JUST SAY NO" to any and all citizens RFP'S. That goes for daily claims by an IA firm, cat claims by an IA Firm, and all Independent adjusters.

The message will be LOUD AND CLEAR, you wanna control us? Sorry Charlie, (Citizens) we only work for the very best, and you don't meet our expectations.

I can assure you Dave, we will not be working claims for Citizens. It was bad enough in 04 and 05 with all their newby examiners that did not know what they were doing, and then blaming the IA's for their incompetence. Citizens has become too beauracratic and full of folks trying to gain ground and move up the ladder. I, for one, am not the least bit impressed with their rules and regulation and demands. We may not get any hurricane work in Florida, but we will make it, until the folks at Citizens and the Florida politicians, quit playing games.

I am still in awe as to why they did not allow John Postava and Simsol to submit a bid to be their estimating system of choice, particularily being a Florida based operation. Simsol is hands over better than Exactimate, in my opinion. Things are just not right at Citizens, something smells very badly.

    Tom, et AL:

IF ONLY, those that truly care for our profession would boycott that particular carrier, it would go a very, very long way towards our goal to retain the professionalism and quality of the dedicated catastrophe adjuster.

And , if those that wish to aspire to the ranks of our ilk would also conscribe to our dictate, perhaps the carriers, et al, would appreciate our true worth.

I was told by a former Citizens exec speaking at a tradeshow last year that the new management team was heavily former SF folks so they wanted to stick with the software they had used for years but they did not use Xactnet. I have heard nothing since then. Some seem to thing it is not a software issue per say.

I bet my next trip to Florida will be tuggin' my little 5th wheel down to Orlando to see my pal Mickey.

Or, better yet, to the Gatornationals.  Yeah, that's it.

Now if only the die hard "Gitter done" type adjuster who sais "Yeeeha i got myself some work! weeew!" would listen to this man, and not take the call.

Props for the effort Hood, but dangle the word "Daily" in front of any AI adjuster, and you get a bite.  its like fishing with the largest net in the world, in the smallest pond in the world.

I was doing an inspection today with a PA from Miami. He has a friend that works for Citizens as staff that received 60 appraisal files in one month. This number doe not include regular claims.

    The guy is buried.

It is unbelievable to me that Citizens would eliminate the RFP's when so many vendors spent time and a lot of expense to comply with Citizens request. That make one wonder what will happen if a big cane hits. I for one will not be working with Citizens until some common sense is injected into their program.

I for one, will not lease Exactimate just to work for this organization. Even though Integraclaim has some problems, I will use nothing else, as I understand the program and do not understand the complexities behind the Exactimate program, which is designed for contractors. Citizens needs to wake up fast.

Simsol has an excellent program. We used it back in the DOS days, but cannot justify having numerous programs to work losses. We, as adjusters, already have enough expense and low schedules do not help. It must end or the insurance industry will suffer from poor claims procedures and adjusting by people who do not know what they are doing.

    SAY NO TO CITIZENS

During this time of having too much time on my hands, and in an effort to find something to do, I wound up on way too many lists. It seemed everyone was on this Citizens program. I was told by several of them I had to go to their class to be "certified". And my certification would not go from vendor to vendor. So I'm with Tom, I might jump through one hoop, but thats about the extent of it. I'm using Xactimate now, but these classes, certs, changes etc, there will be plenty other vendors and companies to work with in the event of a major hurricane, and then I'll bet the major requirement will be a pulse. (its funny how a little work will change your outlook).
