Do any of you make any real money doing 1099 daily claims?

Seems like twice the work and less than half the pay.

I don't think that it is possible to work daily claims, especially as a cat adjuster, and make any significant money, in Arkansas.

From what I read most 1099 day claims are billed out at extremely low rates. (I often wonder if the vendors invoice is the same as the adjusters). Seems like it is a wait to handled the junk losses no one experienced will do.

I will have to say cat claims and daily claims have kept the Boogy -man away from my door this year. It's not a get rich industrylike it use to be,but it does pay the bills.
I still believe a team can make a great deal more than one person by themselves once they have a system set up.
I have always felt smaller claims like hail claims gives you a much quicker turn over and gets the money rolling in.
It is hard to imagine any experienced adjuster didn't make money this year. We had every type of claim imaginable out there.
Bottom line if you worked this year be happy. There are a lot of people out of work regardless what the higher up's Publicize.

For those that worked in the northeast and midatlantic states, it was a pretty decent year. There was serious ice/snow in the winter and two TS through the summer, although those appeared to be mostly flood and business interruption claims.

For those that knew the difference in working normal hurricane claims--and those claims that happened in the Northeast this year--they probably did OK...but many others did not.  As an independent inside examiner, I saw a lot of IA's walk away and leave a lot on the table after ignoring simple instructions.  The pieces were picked up by those that were willing to pay attention. Unfamiliar territory?  Sure, but it's good work if you can get it.

This has nothing to do with 1099 daily's, but it drifted off to this direction.

Daily claims will pay enough to keep your Xacitmate or Mitchell up to date and open and pay the light bill but that's about it. It seems llike I got to drive a lot, too.

    ..............................................................................

What appears to be happening is that certain vendors are artificially driving down fee schedules for "daily" claims with the carrot being do our day claims at this rate "IF" you want to be a preferred vendor when CAT season rolls around
Granted I ONLY know this to be fact for Florida Citizens, where you have an overabundance of "roof thumpers" doing daily claims for a pittance. With so many in place the reality is doing but a handful of claims per week which as another experienced hand rightly stated it is but enough to keep the XM8 scribe active.

I think in regards to the NE debacle from Irene as well as assorted ice storms was more from "rookie adjusters" who jumped at the chance to deploy (who wouldn't) even though once they(not all) got said claims ,it was much akin to what a dog would do with a car when it chases it down the road and actually catches the damn thing (IE.... I caught it what the hell do I do with it now???)

Once they realized they were in over their heads and couldn't follow said examiner instructions, you had a large chunk of abandoned claims that became a nice bonus for a few experienced hands to come in and do some damage control

Goldust has it right.  Daily claims aren't the same as cat claims and those seasoned and excellent at one aren't necessarily efficient at the other.  The same principles don't apply.  We do both and those who work for us that follow instructions and pay attention to details, so that we can bill the clients properly, do well.  Those that look for the quick in and out, (which doesn't work with daily claims), don't do so well. IMHO
