I have learned through friends of mine with the EPA and OSHA that there is some bad stuff in Galveston and several other areas on the Gulf. You should seriously consider getting a mask or better yet, a good respirator to wear while working in that area, until the air is clean again. I can assure you that it can damage your lungs, as I am a living example of that damage.

My breathing problem started with Hurricane Andrew with Toxic chemicals around the aircraft  claims I initially was doing and then progressing to the commercial buildings that had Vermiuclite insulation, which contained asbestos. Every bad weather event place challenges on us that we need to be aware of. Stress has killed several adjuster friends of mine, due to heart attacks and that includes one female adjuster. Breathing problems has forced some adjusters to retire when they did not want to, including me. Even though I will be 69 years old next month, I still would love to work commercial losses, but just cannot without a lot of foot (physical)  help. My brain functions very well, but my body does not want to follow my brain. If your climbing a ladder, stairs, or any other kind of egress and getting short of breath, quit smoking, NOW.

When I had my cancer surgery 3 years ago, blood clots got into my lungs twice, but miracuously I survived both times. That, of course, damaged the lungs also. Please take care of yourselves and particularily your lungs, they need you and I want you to stay healthy.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

    Well spoken, Tom

I got into some mold in Beaumont in '05 and was sick for a couple of weeks.  The adjuster there in the same house with me had no adverse reaction at all.

    Different folks with different resistance.

I have religously washed by hands and face with anti-bacterial wipes ever since and haven't gone through that again.

    Glad you're still with us.
