Its the cost of fuel (and tires) that you should look at first. I have used a Honda and Toyota for the last 18 years with a folding ladder that will fit in the trunk. I drive them until they need to be replaced(over 300,000)  and then replace.Most towns have a one room studio from 200-300 week. Get a national directory of all the chains and try to reserve a room before deployment. Many will not take reservations on a big storm, but a deposit(non refund will get their attention).
If its a small event, just drive into town, get your losses and find living quarters.
 
Opine... the big rigs cost a lot.... when they are not on a storm site.
