If you have had a claim that involved a visit from an adjuster please share your experience.   Please do not  name the adjuster, just tell us a little about the claim and what you felt the adjuster did that was unprofessional or if you felt the adjuster did well then share that also.     No user account is required to post.

I had a hail claim last year. Being an adjuster I was anxious to see how the claim was handled. First it was not handled by a cat adjuster, but the local staff adjuster from the agency office. I was not contacted prior to the adjuster arriving, two weeks after filing the claim, He showed up while I was gone and my teenage daughter was there alone. After asking if parents were home, and being informed that we were not, he asked to come inside and inspect interior damage. Of course my daughter refused. When I was informed this happened I called and left a message, a week later, my call was returned. I was an agent in my small town for 12 years, so we knew of each other, and have mutual friends, otherwise the call would not have been pleasant. 3 weeks later I recd a check. I promptly lost the copy of the estimate and made two calls, left messages requesting a copy. 8 months later, I still have not recd it. I just replaced my roof after a major hailstorm, I just came out of pocket for the deductible + difference.

Jim,
why would you roll over on this?

If some jerk had tried to enter my home with my daughter there alone, that would have been his last appointment as an adjuster.

Ever!

And, why would you not pursue the claim and require that it be handled the way it should have been?

I have not had a problem with providing additional copies of estimates, calling to find out if a check has been issued and, if so, when, meeting with an insured and explain the estimate if a phone conversation wouldn't satisfy them, etc, etc.

No supervisor had to call me to tell me to go do these things. They are part of the job, the requirements of the position.

After thinking on this for a bit, I would have to agree that you are more socially responsible than I.

Happy Trails

Larry, believe me there was a lot of tounge biting on my part. As I said, we have a lot of mutual friends, we live in a relatively small town. It cost me a few sheckles, but I don't have to worry about my wife or daughter getting into a conversation with one of our mutual friends and have to explain anything.

I'm sure this forum was not intended only for adjusters to tell their stories about being on the insured's side of the equation, but until some non-adjuster homeowners arrive to tell their story ---

I am once again dealing with the NEW State Farm Auto -- you know, the one with teams instead of adjusters.  This time I'm dealing with Team Eight.  I am less impressed than I was with Team Five last summer.  That is not good, because Team Five only got a C for service in the final analysis.

Team Eight is failing miserably to deliver on their promise, and if they were really my good neighbor I'd be over knocking on their door to find out why they keep trying to schluff me off on someone else.  It appears that Team Eight doesn't like to listen.  They only like to tell me what to do according to their procedures.  It's a simple claim.  Someone again broke my window and stole my GPS.  The window repair guy was wonderful.  The State Farm Team Eight folks would love to send me pamphlets about glass repair, but in what decade are they going to pay me for the GPS?  They keep sending me to the replacement service.  And when I send my documentation to the replacement service (at the same time telling them I don't want to make my car a target again by replacing the GPS that has been stolen twice in seven months) the documentation goes into a void and I get no payment.  I really wish someone were actually responsible to close the claim like with the OLD State Farm.

My suspicion is that they prematurely closed the claim and no one wants to reopen it.  Since the file is assigned to Team Eight and not to any one adjuster, it can always be someone else's problem.

I must say that they were sort of (not really) prompt to call me the first time, however.  That it was at 5AM Pacific time after I had to drive the vehicle around for 24 hours and park it on a city street with no window.  Now if only someone would be so prompt to acrtually complete what is really a very simple claim!

You know what else would really be nice?  To actually talk to the same person for a second time.  I feel like I'm dealing with Deus ex machina here.

Have your answering machine call their answering machine and perhaps you can the the system twisted up into a perpetual back-feed cross-thread.

Steve, wait until they move your claim over to Team Ten, my guess is that's when the real fun begins!  LOL

I did the only thing one should do when confronted with a premium cost insurance company that is no longer providing premium service.

I called the Gecko.  Now I can hold the claim adjuster's hand and walk them through how the claim should be handled for half the price.
