To all State Farm experts. I have a problem and need some advice with the exam tests. I am not taking away blame from myself for failing my basic estimatics exam but I have some concerns I need some help with so here goes. Three weeks ago myself and a friend took our exam test and we both failed. Both of us missed the majority of our questions that were related to the State Farm pricing guide which is of course the Xactimate pricing guide. During my test I noticed that some page numbers on the pricing guide index did not match page numbers within the guide itself for instance windows listed on page 72 were not actually on page 72 (a made up example) there were other discrepencies as well. After the test I spoke to my friend and he stated that his pricing guide seemed to be missing information as well. In my opinion the pricing guide portion of the test should be the easiest to complete accurately because basically it is a open book test you simply have to search the pricing guide for the correct answers. I am very familiar with Xactimate so I cant assume that was the problem either. So here is a question, does anyone know if the State Farm Independant Adjuster Test Pricing Guide is different from the State Farm Staff Adjuster Pricing Guide. I do know they are two seperate tests but I do not know what the seperate components are. What I am getting at is it possible that the testing center could have possibly switched the guides, (that is if they are different). I just simply cant believe that I missed virtually all the pricing guide questions but yet aced the rest of the test. Any suggestions, advice, comments positive or negative will be greatly appreciated. I know I am going to hear from some of you that I should have had the State Farm study guides but at the time I took the test I didnt know of the study guides and also I do have experience working a State Farm Catastrophe so I am familiar with their way of doing things. I just cant figure out why I did so poorly on the Pricing guide. HELP??? |

Wes:
Don't feel to bad. Before any Cat adjuster was given the SF exam the entire claims staff took it. The majority of the staff adjusters failed the exam the first time also. I was in the first group of Cat adjusters to take the state farm exams in Mobile. Fortunately with my background I did not have a problem, However, many did. So don't worry you are in good company.
As for the study guides I have never seen one. I leave that question for others to answer.

PS: SF exams are written such that it requires some thought before answering questions. They will word a question in such a way that if you are not careful in your interpretation of any part of a question you will make a wrong judgement and then guess what? All your answers in that section would be wrong. This could be what happen to you. One word change can lead you in a totally different direction which will cause you to reach the wrong conclusion. They are very tricky that way! |

Wes I am taking the test next month. I have a condensed version of the study guide and have the full version on the way. I thougt the first part was easy and now you opened a can of worms , I will have to cram on the price guide. This is good to know. I had the xactimate course too, but I still have to get comfortable with it. Its hard to grasp something so complex without some hands on experience. I better take my MOJO with me or I'll fail for sure. |

When I took the test 4 years ago, they told you how many you got right in each section, but they didn't tell you which ones you got wrong and why. Isn't that kind of silly? Don't you think that they would want you to know why you were wrong so that if it ever came up in a real life situation you'd know what to do? I don't know about you guys, but when I get a question wrong on a test, I never forget the correct answer for as long as I live, the questions I got right I probably forget the next day. |

Most grading is done the lazy way with the template they put over the answer sheet. The instructor or procter doesn't have to know the answers and and you are cheated out of one of the most benificial tools in learning. You can profit by your mistakes, and a discussion after the test should be part of the process. In the past that was the custom but now its just crank em out.

We teach basic estimatics's classes and to the best of my knowledge there is only one price guide. I agree that it is unusual that you did so well on the rest of the test and so poorly on the prices guide section. As you are aware the price guide portion is about 1/2 of the test. If I can be of any assistance feel free to call or email me and I will help all I can. Darryl Martin 504-887-6685, darrylm@worleyco.com. I'm not talking about hustling you for a class but just offering some tips we have found helpful. |

I don't recall which test was easier, but I do remember time being an issue on the wind and hail test. If you use the study guides, you will pass either test no problem. |
