Comments Kyle is absolutely correct. There is a great need for additional training of all CAT adjusters (new and "seasoned"). For every 10 resumes we receive at SIMSOL Insurance Services, we get two requests for additional training. Whether it be Pacesetter, Southern Farm Bureau Tech in Jackson, MS, GAB, Crawford, Pilot or, of course, Vale National, it is a great idea to get trained BEFORE you venture out in search of work.
Although many cat adjusters are more than willing to train new adjusters and many of them do a great job, nothing can replace a classroom enviornment with a trained instructor. Some of these schools may cost several hundred to up several thousands of dollars but in the long run the knowledge they give you will enable you to earn many more thousands of dollars early in your careers (when it is most needed as you built up your "war chest" (ie. savings accounts for when the storms dry up)).
When a supervisor from any vendor company reviews a resume - formal claims education counts! Adjusters who spend the time to learn wind, learn flood, learn hail, learn single-adjuster techniques develop a working knowledge of ALL of the popular estimating/adjusting programs will do well. On-the-job training during a storm costs both YOU and the CARRIER money. YOU would make more money by handling more (and your own) claims and the carrier will save money by benefiting from your expertize. If you do your homework correctly, cat adjusting is one of the easiest, best-paying, fun jobs you will every have the opportunity to pursue. GET TRAINED AND GO-FOR-IT!!!

Why didn't I think of something like that?
DigitalThink.Inc and Saturn Learning Solutions are teaming up together to provide online insurance licensing and continuing ed courses; it is unclear yet what the extent of their claims offerings will be.
This may be of interest or value to some, when their curriculum is developed. |
