I use both a lap top & a desktop PC. With MS&B I can transfer my files back & forth between the computers. Can this be done with Xactimate ? |

Yes, You can use the Data Transfer option found in the Services menu. I do this as a method of backup, however the files transfered from the laptop to the desktop or not useable on the desktop since Xactimate is installed on the laptop. But as I stated it is one way to backup your estimates and since both the laptop and desktop are on a network its quick. |

I have a laptop with DVD/RW ,would CD's make a good backup, the cost would be about 35 cents each. I had planned on doing this, especially on the road. I am sure someone has tried it, just wonder how well it works.

Hi Newt,
Yes CD's do work good. On my current assignment adjusters are using CD's. They are required to provide a backup of all of their estimates before leaving the assignment. It is nice to get one CD instead of a handful of disk. |

Questions, questons. I keep hearing the rumble that XACTIMATE doesn't work with XP. I have ME and XP, I like the XP. I can reload to what ever works best. Any suggestions? Next on the agenda, is my speed, my server is slow. I live in the "boondocks" and the band width is 60 cycle hum. I have been looking into wireless. Does anyone have any source info. or a system they like? If it was legal I would go Amatuer Satelite but FCC wouldn't smile on that. It is for personal use,and I'll have to get a reading on it before I tried. I will have a ham rig set up on site with worldwide com through a phone patch open to people who need to keep in touch with home.

There maybe a wireless ISP in your area. I know that there are several in Arkansas. Basically they cover areas where is wired coverage is impractical. |

Thank you one and all,I saw no reason for xactimate not to work, the sources had problems getting set up. I had not tried it except on ME and had no problems. I like the three cd system that HP uses on the laptop. You can wipe the disk clean and be back up in less than an hour. I have two of these laptops hp5475, cd/dvd/rw . I have me on one and xp on the other,I want both on the same op sys. I am out of luck on the DSL here for a while anyway. We have a good provider and I can dial them up on an 800 number, but it is slow T1. The cost is only 8 cents a minute, so I can't complain. My service is still 19.95. Ya'll be good. |

The question I was asking about was not to back up or save files, I have known how to do that for years. My question was answered though it was was a big "NO" !! It has left me with another minus on the Xactimate side. OK.... I guess that is one good reason to search for companies that will allow the use of MS&B. It sounds as if I would have to have this program turned on two computers to transfer work around. With MS&B I have some freedom, I have a program designed for adjusters not contractors. Let's face a few facts, Xactimate is not Adjuster Friendly. |

Kelley are stating that you have a copy of MS&B on the laptop as well as the desktop? You would be able to transfer files between the laptop and desktop with Xactimate too if it was on both computers. |

Yes, with MSB you can have it installed on both your laptop & your desk top, for one price. Will Exatacrap let you install it on both for only one fee? |

No you can only install Xactimate on one PC. How many times are you allowed to install the MS&B software, what are the limits, 2 pcs, 3 pcs, as many as you want? (please no name calling) |

I agree with Don P. Xactimate still has problems with the 2002 version. The sketch program will crash on you in a heartbeat. It seems to be worst on XP than ME edition. I believe theMS&B software is by far superior to xcatimate. |

I have MS&B on both my laptop and my pen tablet and can transfer files back and forth. Installation on two computers is the norm. |

What, I can't understand is why companys are requiring us to use a program that is full of faults and quirks, as opposed to a proven reliable program. Although I have never used Simsol, I have been told it is a good program, as for myself I have used MSB for the past 6 years and am very happy with it, and when I have a question or a problem I can call and get an answer within the hour, at no charge. I have it installed on both my lap top & desk top and can switch files back and forth. It is also easy to download files to a disk or CD, when leaving an assignment for the office to use in case of a problem file. Seems to me that there is more going on than meets the eye! |
