| Passwords (United States) |
|
|
To all users that registered prior to me moving the user database. I tried to make sure that I excluded your accounts from the update and password change however, I may have missed a couple and as a result your password would have been changed to a random one. About 30 people registered before I moved the old accounts. Not all of the information was moved and not all accounts were moved. I did move over 8,000 accounts.
Here is the info that was transferred.
- username
- email address
- first name
- last name
- username was used as the display name
The accounts are connected to the site and the forum is integrated with site. This is different from the past. In the past the forum was the core and the other pages used the forum's user database. This often lead to problems. Since now the user accounts are directly connected to the site you will see more interactive areas and should (we hope) have a easier time using the site. The Roster and Resume areas will be upgraded later this week but currently still uses the old database.
In the past with the number of users we had most of my time spent on the site was spent helping with logins.

Need some help making the new CADO a little more user friendly. I was given a new random password. How do I now go in and change the pass word to what I want it to be? I can't seem to save my log on information, I am asked to log in on every visit. I hit the save info button and my computer is set up for cookies but I must be missing something.
Thanks |

Wes,
I will check on the cookie problem but changing your password is easy.
Login and click your name.

After you click your name you will see the following screen.

When you click the Manage Password link you will see the following screen, just complete the fields.

This is also posted as FAQ in the Catastrophe Central area. |

| Thanks Roy, got my password changed but still not able to save 'log in' info. I tested it by logging in and then navigated to another website. When I came back I had to log in again. |

Wes- I have the same problem. Cookies are enabled, I check 'Save Login', but must
re-enter info on each visit. Aside from that, the new site is great - just takes a little
getting used to.

Hi Roy, do you have a fix yet for the 'log in' issue? I don't know why but the new forums will not save my 'log in' information, I must 'log in' every visit to the site. Thanks

Wes, I have the same problem. It will not save the log in and I have to log in everytime I get on. I minimized it today and when I came back on, I was logged off. I think members are getting on, but it is showing them as visitors, due to the inability to auto log in. Roy, can something be done about this?

Tom, I'm looking into the auto login problem. Is anybody having any other problems related to the login? |

(Jadle) told me last night on Chat, that he was unable to log in at all. I have had several e-mails telling me that they have not been able to log on. I have no idea how big a problem it is, but it appears to be one, as we show few members on but a lot of visitors. I suspect some of the visitors are members who have not or cannot log on.

I'm not aware of any problems with the login system. I believe the problems with the login are related to the password and\or username. I hope all users remember that when I made the move on 10/6/2006 all passwords had to be reset so a password that was used prior to this date will not work unless you have updated the password since that date. I have also noticed that some problems are related to the email address, the one in the database is no longer valid, in this case the user will need to send me an email and I will send the login information or they can create a new account. It is also important note that about 2,000 accounts were not transferred when I made the move. This was because their profile in the old database did not contain any information in First name or Last name field., if either field was blank then it did not get moved. With the current system the password must be at least seven characters in length.
Here are some tips on the login;
1. Username is not case sensitive
2. The password is case sensitive
I believe the auto login is now working, cannot someone test and let me know. |

I can attest that the "auto-login" works, as I've employed it without a hitch since the inception of the new CADO format.

| Still not working for me. I must enter my 'user name' and 'password' every visit to the site. I hit 'save login info' as well each time. Windows XP is also not asking me if I would like to save my password as it normally should. This must be some sort of setting on the CADO website/server as all my other web sites work as normal. |

| Same here. Since the change over in the forums it has never saved my login information when the box is checked, but other websites it does. |

I made a change to the cookie system last night and using this test account I have noticed that my login is saved. Tested with IE and Firefox. RC |
